value of my 911? How to judge?
I want to sell my 911, but can't figure out how to list it or how much to ask as a fair price. It is a daily driver track car. It has never been raced, but was used for DE. It is a year '2000 996 with an engine change. It now has a 997s engine with 4,732 miles on it, and 75,173 miles on the car itself. The original engine blew and had it replaced with the 997s. I bought it with 6,400 miles on it in 2004. All work on it after I became involved in DE has been done by Kelly Moss Motor Sports. They do a lot of Porsche race work. All the mods are in my signature below. I payed about $55,000 for the car, and added about $62,000 in mods. (not counting of course, tires, rims, brakes, etc, etc.) It has had one crash to the side as I drifted perfectly into a grass birm at Blackhawk. No structural damage and it was fixed to perfection. It was also hit while parked by a drunk driver. (The neighbors held him till the police came); and again no structural damage, and fixed to perfection. The car is cosmeticly in good enough shape that people comment how good it looks, but there are signs of road rash down low, and the camel interior is no longer perfect. (Nothing torn).
Any help would be appreciated. It is a great DE car. Oh, the airconditioning is there but not connected up after the engine change. But I drive it that way with a suit and climb out over the roll cage. It has been fun.

Sorry. Not trying to rag, its just the 62k in mods, crashed once, crashed twice, held the drunk.
Come on, you gotta admit from a outsider's perspective it looks like someone is pullin someone's leg.
Price? This market? I really don't know the 996 market well but I think 1999 go in the low 20s.

As a wise man told me when he built his Koni challenge car. "I just spent a lot of money to make a new car into a used car" (Paraphrasing)

I'm just the messenger, but here's what I think you'll hear:
You have a repaired, older 996, without ac, with lots of paint, needing more paint. No one (read, NO ONE) is buying it for a DD and the car doesn't fit into any PCA CR class in which it will be competitive. And you never, ever see hardly any of your $ invested in mods returned. And the economy sucks and there are 996 GT3's and Koni cars for sale cheap everywhere.
You're hosed (just like most of us, I might add). Bet you have trouble selling it for $30k, and maybe that's wishful, just my guess, and please know I feel your pain!
Hope someone else says I'm crazy, but......

Thanks for the input!!! I Know I won't get what I think it is worth. It IS a Great Car , but I am looking for a realistic asking price. I hear $30,000. What do others think? (Also it is a year 2000 not 1999, not that that will really matter).

…Nope, not crazy. 2000 996's where I live are more common then a Toyota Prius. 1999's and 2000's in excellent shape, with service records, and no accidents are going for mid-$20K's. I looked at a 996 Spec donor car last week with 40,000 miles that could place in a concourse for $28.5K.
I don’t think the 997 motor will add much, as a low mileage 2005 997 can be had in LA for mid $40’s. The track mods will hurt the value.
If this isn’t a joke (and I think it probably is), take the first offer over near $25K, cut you losses, and RUN! Pretend you invested the money in Countrywide

I've decided to retire from the track, and I am being honest, though seeing it in print is a bit embarasing. It was worth it. I've been able to run with some of the GT3s, though that is what got me into trouble too. So keep the estimates coming. (You can check my previous posts and see I'm serious. I haven't been around for a while because I sat this summer out due to the economy and difficult family stuff).
