Default Has anyone been to a trackday at Infineon? How does it compare to Thunderhill?

I've done a couple trackdays at T-hill but I've never been to Infineon. I'm going there for the first time soon and is wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect. Esp in relation to thunderhill because that's the only track I've been on.

Thanks!

For starters: Infineon is WAY more dangerous. Walls everywhere.

On the upside, it is an awesome track. My favorite.

Just drive within your limits and you'll have a ball.

I remember having our first DE experience at Infinon. Its great track and here is a good amount of run off for most turns on the front half of the track, and if you have good car control, the backhalf is not that bad. much more runnoff then we had back in the early 90s.
anyway, totally different tracks. Sears, you always are turning, thunderhill has straights. Sears is pretty fast as well, but does have the walls on the back half of the course, so keep the car underneath you at all times there. Its a great track, with awesome elevation changes.

enjoy!

check out a couple of the incar videos if you want a feel.

I much prefer Infineon to Thunderhill, it's a gorgeous track to drive.

It is moderately more dangerous but as mentioned, drive within your limits and have fun!

Alternatively, for your first visit you might consider starting with some calm footage showing the DE line (this was filmed while the track was a bit wet). With the volume up you can hear throttle adjustments and get a sense of the track's flow.

Once you click through, hit the "HQ" button, otherwise it will be too blurry.

Have fun!

Infineon scares me too.....all those walls are intimidating......I LOVE Thunderhill for the runoff & lack of walls......I do need to learn Sears one day soon though

Infineon/Sears Point is technically much more demanding and much less forgiving of mistakes. It's great fun to drive. I like it a lot better than TH.

While you should be concerned that a stupid mistake or a thoughtless moment could result in a totaled car, that doesn't mean that you should avoid it. It simply means you have to be careful (which is the way it should be anyway). While an 'off' in most turns at TH will usually be uneventful, it's not that way at Infineon. An oops in T8 there has produced more carnage and more frequently than any other turn I've seen.

Hey thanks everyone for the videos and the replies. The track day is in a couple months.. that's "soon" for me as so far I've gone to one trackday per season haha
I've always heard that it's way more technical than thunderhill and that the walls are scary but I guess I finally get to experience and judge for myself!

PCA GGR in October. Go to www.pca-ggr.org for the details. I'm going to try and fix all the bugs in the 964 and come out.

Not to mention 10 before they built the garages back there and extended the exit pavement. (That would be pre-1990.)

In any case, your instructor will have you on a short leash, and once you find your pace and get the basics of the turns down things tend to flow really well. I can't imagine an instructed beginner simply driving off the track; it's the intermediates who are too quick to run solo.

Sears is so intense. Great place to FOCUS on your skills. Corners is where it's at. Do the JR class. Not to mention the location for after. Great hotels, wine, and dinners. It is a place where I can take my wife and she can enjoy the day in town.

I live 20 minutes from the track
hopefully it won't be too much for me there.. would be so much easier than driving all the way to t-hill
maybe next step laguna? but I'm getting ahead of myself now
