5.5 pages easy. Of course that is if he doesn't actually tell us who the person is who was asked to instruct from the black group since this is a "DL" (down low) deal

I was asked because I wanted to give back to the club and let the right people know at the right time.

Timing and diplomacy are crucial. Good luck.

I didn't know you were black?

Seriously, though, I talked to people about it long before I was ready (including the Chief Instructor) and when the annual instructor class came around, I was encouraged to participate. There was a lot of ground to cover in the Nat'l DE program, but definitely do-able. As I recall, I started instructing with another club before taking on students with PCA. It is best to begin instructing at a track and with a CI where there is great familiarity. There is so much that needs focus on figuring out a student and how best to work with them that you can't worry about politics or trying to learn an unfamiliar track.

After a few years into it, I was able to successfully instruct a student at a track that I had only driven at once before. That wouldn't have been comfortable without a lot of passenger seat time.

I would like to think that I was seen as a safe, polite, aware driver so that when instructor candiacy came into the picture, they had already pictured me in that role.

Good luck, if instructing is something that you REALLY want to do.

Talk to your Chief Instructor and ask if he thinks you are ready. You generally don't get asked.
Our Northeast region instructor training program is one of the best (I am told) and will make you a better driver.

Nomex on.

Instructing = DE basic and advanced sikills. COACHING = getting down to business. For me the instructor thing is about giving back to those that helped me get started. I have commented before and remain firm that instructors are NOT necessarily the best drivers they tend to be very good communicators and have a desire to assist others.

The good news is that now that I have been an instructor I realize the need for COACHING which I get.

The first rule of instructor club is you don't talk about instructor club.

Black - (IMO) to fast for any other group and usually a lot less.........polished than red (PC enough?) Black is where we in red go when we want to dice it up with those who desire to push a bit harder Think of it as the racer's group (wannabe and btw no trade mark infringement intended). Great group to run in for fun, but not a place to learn the appropriateness (word?) of being a proper instructor.
