Default Having some fun with a GTR on the track.

Someone requested that I post this on here. Just doing a mid week DE thing and found myself behind one of the new Nissan GTRs. They're an impressive car no matter what we Porschephiles believe. He was going hard too. Unfortunately I mounted the camera in a not so good position which covered off where he was 4 wheel drifting around turn 3. I was also having some setup issues and couldn't get anywhere near the apex on turn 1 which is a pretty fast 100-120mph corner, so I had to back off a lot before getting back onto the throttle. Also you get idiots out there who don't use mirrors or signal you past so hard to get a clear lap.

Having tracked my GTR many times ...it looks as though your GTR trackmate was just learning how to track it (braking mid turn is not in the program). The learning curve for a GTR on track, is alot longer than something like a GT3 or 944. Once mastered, it is a very quick STOCK car.

He did say his tyres were going off so perhaps that's why he was touching brakes mid corner through 1? I'm sure they're a great car once sorted out and more miles are done for familiarity. Had my suspension been a bit better sorted I feel I could have passed him and that shouldn't happen in a lowly 951.

The car is impressive from a performance standpoint but I wouldn't trust one as far as reliabilty. I think that has been the majority of the issues brought up here.

I hope Nissan builds a race car and runs it in ALMS or even WC.

Got the oil leak fixed. Now I need to install pads, and brake ducts. Almost there!

What pads are you thinking? Have you got a race weight on your car now?

I have a set of Performance Friction 97's. I have always loved PFC's. I wanted 01 race pads, but they are not available in the size I need.

Weight - I am 3/4's there. I want to pull the hood and AC system. Replace the hood with either CF or FRC. That will save a lot from the front end.

That is the exact opposite of every article I have ever read about the GTR. Most reviewers report that it is a far easier car to drive quickly on the track than say a GT3.

From what I've seen when on the track with these GTRs are that they're a bit twitchy actually. I think they can probably be driven very quickly on the road, easily, but maybe on the track they're still a bit road oriented and they're very heavy too. You can see when the electronics are helping the driver at times too. Then again some of us in old Porsches say that about the GT3 / Boxter / Caymen guys too.

The only "aid" on my Boxster is ABS. No different than many of the "old" Porsches.

Well many of the mid or rear engined Porsches of late have PASM traction etc and sophisticated ABS etc. You must be a purist hehe.

I too loved PFCs but for some reason the last time I used them they didn't have their normal bite. Might have been my drilled rotors about to die though.
