Default SCCA Races at Laguna Seca This Next Weekend 6-19-09

Probably one of the greatest mix of high peformance sports cars ever run in a non pro event.

http://www.sfrscca.org/images/2009/S...une19entry.pdf

ITE is going to be like a mini Speed World Challenge GT event as far as mix and diversity of cars. (as well as some of the cars in performance)
The Group 3 race group will be filled with :
Nascar
SWT cars
Super Unlimited ( 1000hp mercury cyclone, 650hp NSX turbo, transam vet, etc)
and the Porsche Pirelli cup GT3 challenge cars.

I was looking through the entry list and thought to myself, "heck, this would be an event I would pay to go see!".

In ITE we have panos and several Vipers, a couple of them, Comp coupes,
turbo NSx, Griggs Mustang,BMW PTG-like M3, porsches, Supercharged S2000s, mustangs, vets, lotus, Subaru, caddy. (dont know what CTS this is, but Ill find out), etc

Should be an awesome weekend. Still time to sign up. Lots of porsches are already there, GT3RSs to GT3cup cars.

Mk

We have a lot of porsches showing up in ITE this race as well.
several of the Pirelli cup entries running in group 3 will be running with us in group 1 (ITE) . WE also will be seeing the SPEED WC GT Cadillac in our group. should be an interesting race. The Pirelli cup drivers are Steve Goldman and Potter. Potter is the points leader for the series now. It will be interesting to see these guys in our group.

so far its:

Caddy from WCGT
500rwhp s2000
650hp griggs mustang
650hp turbo NSX
comp coup Vipers
PTG like BMW M3
Panoz
928
911
911 GT3cup
914
Lotus
subarus
etc.

If you are near by, come on out. The pirelli cup should be great to watch in group 3 with the unlimited group and our group is a mini WCGT line up as far as manufacturers and power.

The NSX mopped up everyone. no one could hang. Even Bob F. in the Patron Cup GT3! the NSX ran 1:29s our final race on DOTs. I dont know what he did on Slicks in the race with the pirelli cup guy in the unlimited group. He had run a 1:30.2 in RACE 1 on slicks and 1:30.8ish on the DOTs in our group. Great race to watch. our race was also peppered with a few of the pirelli cup GT3s. I had a great couple of races, but both were plagued with issues on the last 7 laps. Broken shift lever (broke in half) in race 1 and blown front brake line in race 2 (no brakes! )
That caddilac was awesome! the sound!! anyway, he is tuning this car. it was chassis number 6 that was never used in a WCGT event. he got down to the 1:37.0 range, just slightly faster than I was. I gave him a run for one lap, and then he blew by down the straight. Im sure that he will be a few seconds faster very soon.
Anderson was with us and kept on having sound issues (103db or broken half shafts) so even though he was qualifying 1st in class, and way up near the front in the last race, the breaks ended his race way short. 4-5 laps tops in both races. BUMMER!
Even with the problems, great weekend.

Its like a GT40 went into a hair solon for a cut, and came out with some bad plastic surgery.

Actually, its pretty cool. It has a center seat and is powered by a Vet motor.
GLMR. It's pretty over the top, but its cool and pretty fast.

I just saw the NSX results on slicks in group 3. 1:29.4 . He couldnt break 1:30.5 on DOTs. Kind of a good testimonial for DOTs vs Slicks. I havent seen more laps and more consistant laps by anyone on more tracks to provide some interesting data. however, the Mustang (Griggs) ran a 1:29.8 in the race on DOTs, but he lost to the NSX. Their lap times were all 1:30-31s for 20 laps! And, the Griggs racing mustang was on A6s Hoosiers. . Looks like they dont go away, ever! No blisters, and hot laps for over 30min, with no let up. The NSX and Mustang were nose to tail the entire race.

i'd have guessed that it was an old roadrace mercury cougar (early 70s vintage). we have one that shows up at the track occasionally with us here at VIR NASA Mid Atlantic. cool car!

Oh the first pic? Thats the craziest car you have ever seen! Its actually a mecury Cyclone and it used to be a nascar from the 60s. It has a rumored 1200hp and weighs about 3200lbs with driver. We call it the science project.
1:32s at laguna!
