Yes, it will happen in a DE. It would be pretty unlikely in an autocross though.
that's one mode of failure.
my coupling never had prob, but i do overheat the pwr str fluid. and eventually killing the rack.

If I had the $$$ to turn it into a dedicated track car I would add:
LSD
Improved VOS and oil sump extension (for the oil ingestion and starvation issues)
3rd radiator
UDP and insulate the PS line (for the PS issue - though there are more expensive options)
BBI Harness/Rollbar, Track seats, etc.

If you are interested in weight loss, there's a member of CaymanClub who has removed and weighed just about every removable part of the car: Weight Reduction

Also, I think you can now source a CF/Lexan rear trunk lid, and lightweight or CF doors from somewhere in Europe.

the door is IDENTICAL to 997. so you can get them from cargraphic, GT racing, ma shaw or OEM cup car

the fiberglass hatch can be had from farnbacher loles.

paul guard makes an excellent LSD for the car. even with my BSR lowly 200 hp, without LSD, 2nd gear turns i am dead meat. i either wait until i straighten out or i just spin the inside wheel until it catches and twitches.

I'll still keep mine.

Question I just did the PS pump in my boster r-car and was thinking about plumbing in a cooler for the unit. Any experience with that or does the underdrive work? A secondary more radical thought would be to fabricate an idler pulley to replace the PS one and simply remove the pump and modify the rack as needed

We plumbed in a cooler for my car a few years back and it has worked out really well. Rick DeMan has the details on what needs to be done.

Is it feasible to de-power the steering rack? Or is the steering too heavy without power?

Thanks for the info everyone! Sounds like it has some issues to be worked out, but overall should be a good platform is the motor and lsd issues are addressed.

They sell wholesale for 27-30k, and they are retailing 06's with higher mileage (although not that high in reality) for $32-35k.

ONe of my friends dealers has this 06 for $32k, 46k miles:
