Default Why don't I club race?

As I watch some of my track pals disappear into the club racing darkness, I am thinking about why I don't race.
If you are an advanced Drivers Ed participant (lets say instructor level) and decided not to join the club racing circuit, I'd enjoy hearing from you about why you don't race.

What the heck? You replied before I even got this posted!
Actually, the fear is - I will love it. And I have other loves in my life.
Now, if I had $ and didn't work...

You know now that I am a club racer, I have to be quick.......

Honestly, you should try it at least once........

Heard you the first time
That was a good one about quick, though.

I have found there is a subset of people who do not have the need to be more competitive, yet enjoy being at the track and telling buddies/co-workers that they're "racecar drivers" on the weekends.

There are also a lot that have modded the car too much and they would have to go into a GT class in PCA.

Rick,
A Club Race weekend will not cost you any more in time or $$$ than the week of Chin & Cups - Saucers.
Actually probably less time!
There has to be another reason other than what you stated above?

I'll disagree with Scott on this one. Yes, the Glen has more cars than LRP, but it is also twice as long. In addition, the Glen has very few connected corners compared to Lime Rock, so passing is much simpler and requires less cooperation.

That being said, the start of the race at Lime Rock is tame compared to the start at Watkins Glen. At the Glen, you can have people side by side for the entire first lap (and then some). Turn 1 is usually 3-4 wide.

I'm afraid to race because my ego couldn't handle winning.

I agree with you about the Clash, I have done it every year since inception(except one) not this year as I don't like where it was "headed" last year.
You should try Mosport, even though it is a distance ...the racing is great, the track is usually excellent and the people are the best.
This year I am doing the HSR event in June one week after the clash at WG. First time at this event, and as you said..the experience is the main driving force.

Ha!

I was going to list similar reasons...

1) I like being a big fish in a small pond.
2) I think I'm fast now and don't want to know the truth.

It's quite a leap up from the recreational DE driver. Full cage being the biggest leap for many of us. With that comes a trailer, a place to keep the trailer, then lots of tires ...

I'd love to do it some day, but I'm probably 8+ years shy of it. Three kids to put through college! Tuition keeps going up, and the 529 College Plans keep going down.

I will. Hopefully soon.

As per a good friend's (a consistent podium guy) advice...I'm still acquiring the minimum requisite skills.
