Not enough time and I'm afraid of myself.

I raced for about 15 years and really enjoyed it but it is a huge commitment of your time money and energy. If you race; you race to win and it is VERY challenging to do so. Tons of fun and no question the quality of driving is far above the DE level as are the skills developed. I retired from racing due to competing demands for my time from career and family plus a level of burnout.

I started doing DE days as an instructor AFTER racing and now after years of instructing I'm entering most DE days as a student just doing laps. I enjoy the one on one time with the car immensely and few activities are as enjoyable as hanging around a track with peers. The experience isn't as intense as racing but neither is the level of commitment. I'm enjoying traveling to and learning different tracks and generally finding it to be an enjoyable and rewarding hobby.

I'd like to know how one does that. I would receive enormous amounts of crap from our club members if I told them I wasn't instructing anymore. Also, it's enough putting up with the level of driving in the red group, the last think I would want to do is have to slog around in black.

Remember that instructors are the ones sitting in the right hand seat, helping develop the next group of drivers, whether for DE or for racing.

Larry, that's the funniest thing I've read here in a long Time. You just made the Black drivers day

There is enough open passing events like group 52 and Kajote to get race like driving w/o the DE slugs. Personally I'm going to drive more of these events and less Racing. Burned out on on racing. Maybe I just need a car change to get inspired again.
