Default Pyrotect Helmets

Hi Gents thinking of purchasing a Pyrotect helmet and would like some input.
http://www.apexperformance.net/CartGenie/prod-978.htm

Hows the fit and finish? Would you purchase another one? Would I be better off spending more money for say something like an Arai?

Thanks

Sure why not. They have to pass the same tests as the others. Many will say "why cheap out on safety." I say - if it passes the SFI testing...go for it. Just be sure you get a chance to try one on and test the fitment.

I got one about three years ago and have been very satisfied. I wear a cotton headsock with it and the inside looks excellent. The fit is very similiar to a Bell.

Thanks Chad and Manny. When I road raced motorcycles I wore nothing but Arai. I'm getting ready for my first DE and fiqure I'm testing the waters. There is a huge price difference for the Pyrotect vs Arai.

I have tried on Bells and they don't fit quite well for me in the forehead area. I can't try on the Pyrotect in a store so its going to be mail order trial and error. So if a Bell doesn't fit me me I can expect the same with a Pyrotect ?

I few yrs ago, I ordered a pyrotec, and sent it back... it was HUGE.
it was light enough, but seemed a lot larger than any other helmet I've seen or worn... But it was pretty darn cheap.

Their open face hemet seemed normal size.

It's a good budget helmet. Bell and Pyrotect fit very similar, I heard the original Pyrotects were made by Bell but can't verify it. If you don't like Bell fit you probably won't like Pyro.

I run a pyrotect and will probably pick up another when the new SFI Cert comes out next year. If not I'll be looking at G-Force or Bell.

Probably going to have a fit issue with the Pyrotect as it's a very similar fit to the Bell.

If you have worn Arai in the past and really like the fit, HJC has a similar profile and is a bit easier on the budget.

If you're looking for a good quality, great priced alternative, have you checked out SafeQuip? I've tried them on in person and was impressed with the quality, fit and finish, especially for the price...

Thanks guys for your recommendations, a huge help. I didn't know about the new SFI cert. Whatever helmet I choose does it mean it will be outdated in another year and I will need to purchase another one?

Wont be out dated
But many organizations specify the current and -1 generation of the certs to be acceptable. (for example my helmet has an SFI 2000 sticker and the current is a 2005. I'll be able to use my helmet until the 2010 spec comes out).

Jerry, thanks for clearing that up. It would be pretty upsetting to spend some good money on a helmet and have it declared outdated in just a year from now.

Just wanted to make sure that you realized that buying a helmet this year will get you an SFI 2005 certified helmet. Nothing wrong with doing that.

Jerry, thanks again for your help.

After more research it seems I have a oblong head not suited for the Bell, Pyrotect, and Zamp. Motorcycle helmets are way more comfortable than auto helmets and quality helmets are cheaper too. I haven't tested all the helmets that were suggested but I'm running out of time. All this leads me back to Arai. Seems I'm going to have to pony up.

Dan
