Help! Is this rotor still good?
Was just going through my spares box in preparation for the upcoming LimeRock Club Race.
I was happy to find brand new front rotors, until i realized that one of them had a lot of rust depots on its back side (only). See the pic. If you slide your fingers on the rotor surface, you can feel the rust bumps.
Will this go away after a couple of laps or will the rotor destroy the pads?
Thanks for your help.

The rust shouldn't hurt it, but I would take some 200 grit on a block and try and get most of the surface rust off before I ran it.

Fred - I agree with Larry, take some dry sandpaper to it. That's just surface rust. For storage you can coat them with a thin layer of oil and wipe them down with Brakeclean when you are ready to go.

Thanks Larry and Gary. This is great advice. I tried the sand paper, rust is gone and surface is smooth (though a little darker where there was rust).

I would try that too. I had the rear rotors on my 944 down too thin. So I swapped rear rotors off one my parts cars. There were used and fully rusted. So a little time with wire brush and I got all the surface rust off them. They were still ok in thickness and have been fine.
