The question stems from the fact that RA1's are no longer in production. I like them a lot and have learned to use them. Not the fastest but IMHO consistent.

Mr Bill (Oooh no ) we are not allowed to run wider than 205 fronts and 225 rears; profiles not lower than 50 allowed. The tires that I've found run 225/45 which therefore are not allowed.

Slick like (circumferentian grooves only) are not allowed either.

Pointers for PBIR are appreciated

I'm still trying to figure it out.... (w/1 track day)
-Theres lots of different lines on Youtube...

I think the fast line is late trail braking into 2, almost running off the course. (but that may be wrong)

and it looks like staying high until you see the apex in T5 is good. (vs early turn in), (old t4 -bowl like turn)

T8 (before back straight) feels like you could start the turn in very early, and not run out of track. (just touching the brakes before the 'hill' in T7 (esses))

also, I'm using the light poles alignment w/ A pillar for reference points. (last turn after back straight, I'm using the last wooden pole to start my turn in.)

I'm guessing they do the starts on the back stright... the 'display' checker flags need to come down if thats the case. (about 10 checker& us flags on top of the fences)

the early (checker/black flag station is hard to see) T6 (drivers rt) (old T5), and it takes some practice to see the s/f flags from the back straight.

over all, fast, wide, FUN! but not much paddock space currently. (basically just the old skid pad, and a little grass where the old A frame concessions were.

-get there early!

Oh, & the bathrooms (trailers) had a/c... and theres a meeting tent w/ a/c too... so the temp facilities are actually better then old.

Please let me know what you decide is fastest!

I think folks throw out the "1-2 seconds faster" thing a little too easily. (kind of like the bolt on hp thing". I think we are talking up to 1 second faster at the very most. Ill have to agree the kumos, from what i have seen are probably as good as the hoosiers. remember, if you get 1-2 seconds for this DOT, what do you get for the slick? I would LOVE to think i could run a 1:33 going to slicks at Laguna, vs my very worn used Toyos, but that would NEVER happen. However, I bet a new set of hoosiers or kumos could drop me down to the high 1:36s as now my best is a very consistant, all out 1:37.high.

OK Va (cool avatar btw!) in your opinion which would be the fastest non slick or semi slick?

That would be the Hoosier A6 > R6 and then the V710.
Per hoosier the A6 WILL last a sprint race 30min of continuous laps just keep the temps around or below 200F. The A6 is specifically designed for what you are doing 6 lap time attack. I use them for time trials where we have 1 lap warm up and 2 flying laps. They don't last long, like 8 HCs. R6s fall off less but harder to get heat in them.

I think its included onthe approved tire list? For sure the 700 is. Must check.

I race 1 hour and longer enduro's as well as 8 lap sprints.

A048 is definitely inferior to the Michelin Cup in the dry.

The last thing I heard is that Toyo is resourcing them from a different factory, but they will continue to make them if people are buying them. IIRC one of the sizes you mentioned is a Spec Pinata size so expect them to stay around for a while. That said.... I hate RA-1s and I currently drive in a Toyo speced class.

if you want to know about BFG R1s, ask Mustang Challenge drivers. It's their spec tire. Most of the guys I talked to like them. One of them said he ran some test days on R6s and was much faster.

it seems everyone makes that 205-55-15 tire since its a miata size.....

I'm having a hard time finding tires that fit my needs....295/30-18 front and 335/30-18 rear..... it appears those are pretty rare
