Default Spec boxster lap time

with a decent driver, what kind of lap times would you expect, let's say VIR full course ???

I ask because of the long straights and low HP of the car

Matt obviously I can't compare at VIR, but some local comparisons in my 03' Cup vs my 99' Spec Boxster:

Willow Springs: 1:26 vs 1:34
Buttonwillow: 2:00 vs 2:12
Laguna Seca: 1:34 vs 1:45
Cal Speedway 1:44 vs 1:59
Las Vegas
(outside track): 1:51 vs 2: 04

I ran against a Spec Boxster at Summit race a couple of weeks ago. I think he was running light on weight for NASA, but the car/driver was fast. Ran 1:23's at Summit, so I would put that at 2:11 to 2:12s at VIR full course. Now if he was 200 lbs light, you will need to add a couple of secs.

The last time I was at VIR was about 5 years ago and I was driving a '99 tiptronic boxster and was doing 2:24's. I think now I would be somewhere around a 2:19 in a spec boxster. A better driver could probably get down to a 2:15.

1:23 is fast for a SB at SP.

Don't use Gordon's BSR times as a comparison. You should add two seconds to his time. The guy wins every race he enters.

You sure it was a "Spec Boxster" as opposed to an E-class or F-class boxster? There are quite a few differences. A 1:23 in a real "spec boxster" sounds incredibly fast.

John, is the Boxster running on Kumho V700, or Michelin Slicks?

Yep, but I would imagine he dropped some ballast to run GTS3. My car is still ill and was down 30+hp (they pulled me for a dyno run after qualifying which made me feel better). We both were running 23s & 24s both races. I had a hard time getting by him as he pulled on the straight and between 9 &10. He finally left room in T6 and I squeeked by. You can check with Mylaps for the Summit Nasa Oct race and ask him how much ballast he was under (Steve Kwait).

I believe John ran those times on the R888 that they are using now.

I might be wrong, but I don't think that he was dropping ballast to run GTS3. I don't think that the Spec Boxsters run with ballast and if they do, they don't have 200 pounds of ballast.

Can you point me to the link for the mylaps race? Ever since they changed the website, I've had almost 0 luck with their search function.

Brian, just go to Nasa Proracing, Midatlantic race results. His car had all the "Spec" decals and was good chatting with him. I know very little about the Spec Boxster class. I did have a completely stock Boxster "S" and ran similar times you quoted at VIR with just tires (2:20 range).
