I'm extremely surprised that the old 986 Boxster (I had one of those) is this fast.
I know how much faster the slicks are compared to A6/R6/R1/V710 and these ones against MPSC/R1/V700/R888, etc.
The 986 Boxster with that lack of power (something it doesn't have, not even the S) must be killing everything on the turns.
I ran 1:52 at Cal Speedway on RA-1 (first time at the track) with my 996 GT3. I always kept in mind a 3 secs gap per 60 secs of track time (on 18" Hoosiers) compared to a well driven 996 GT3 Cup on slicks. This difference was around 5 secs when the car was stock on the same tires (Hoosier). At Cal Speedway with better grip from Hoosiers and more seat time, I think I could run 1:50s with my old modified 996 GT3, 6 seconds behind John in his Cup.
My 996 GT3 was well prepared, and far from stock. A stock 996 GT3 on R888 could run no better than 1:54s at Cal Speedway (on average not so fast hands). This is just 5 secs behind John's time on the same tires on a track that rewards horsepower, and John is running with 1/2 the power of a stock 996 GT3.
At Laguna Seca, my best time (my only track day there) was a 1:42 on Toyo RA-1. That's barely 3 secs faster than John's Spec Cayman Cabriolet.

and jrgordon removed the brake circuit from his car while welded the throttle to the floor board.

all right. you pushed me, colby.
jeff's best time was with MSPC, one lap at 1:37:902, timed with AMB so pretty accurate
assuming that's an outlier, his next lowest lap is 1:38:311 this may be R6 or MPSC i cannot confirm.
he told me he's not much faster on R6 vs mpsc, thought R6 is more consistent for him.
most days at LS, he can do 8-10 laps in 1:38. i am sure he can do more, but there's always traffic. when rad and i was there with him in feb 2008, he did either 6 or 8 laps of consecutive 1:38's.
ALL ABOVE TIMES ARE TIMED WITH AMB.
his car has safety equipment, 4.0 ring and pinion, RS29 pads, EVERYTHING else is stock.
he clearly is smoking some sort of drug to enlarge his *****. i need some of that sh*t.
and for some reason, i am getting slower and slower as the year wore on.
for ref, my best is 1:40:xxx with R6 and 1:41:000 with R888. timed by AMB
dave is either 1:38 or 1:39 on mpsc, not sure what timing equipment used. dave runs a data logger.
dave and my cars are all stock except safety and RS29's.

Starting with a stock boxster for GTS2 would be ok, but to make it the ultimate you'd need a GT3 cup wing, front splitter, short gears, better suspension, bigger rims, larger brakes, better tires, etc.

Hi Guys,
I was the Boxster in GTS3 at Summit. My car was originally built as a Spec Boxster, but back in April, I found a good deal on a 3.4l out an early 996 ('99 with throttle cable). So now the car is has a stock 3.4l (264 to the wheels) and guard LSD (80/50). Other than that it has a full Spec Boxster suspension setup. I'm actually way overweight compared to the spec boxsters. After quali on Saturday I weighed in at 2,950 with driver. I park the car outside so I haven't gutted the doors, windows...
I did drive the car overweight with the original 2.5l motor at the end of last season and very beginning of this season. I had one event at VIR in March, but the car was all messed up and also overweight by ~250 lbs. The handling was horrible. I later found out that the rear toe was wayyy out of whack (making for some hairy handling). I had run somewhere in the low 2:20s on old Nitto NT-01s, but I think thats a bad benchmark.
I'm guessing at this, but I believe a properly setup, properly driven Spec Boxster should do VIR in the 2:15-2:17 range. Again, thats just a guess.
At summit back in November of last year I ran low 1:27s on the same Nitto NT-01s at the same weight with the 2.5l motor. Here's some incar video of some lapping from that HPDE event:

Bob, it was great to meet you at the Summit event. Its always fun to have someone running similar times to go toe to toe with in a race. I really learned a lot out there from you that weekend. Thank you. This being my first year club racing, I think I'm still on the steep part of the racecraft learning curve (7 years of HPDE teaches none of that!). BTW, that off in the race on Sunday was me losing my brakes going into Turn 1. I was on those brakes hard trying to late brake and defend against you going into 1 when I heard a POP and the pedal went to the floor. It turns out one of the hard brake lines in the front trunk near the Master Cylinder split open. I had a huge pool of brake fluid in the front trunk! Scary stuff. Check out that video:

You were def putting pressure on me (check out the rear view)![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Did you find out what was causing the intermittent power loss? Was it a bad temp sensor?
Are you going to Thunderbolt next weekend?
