First race...... what is your advice for a rookie?.........
1.What is the most important thing to focus on the day of the race?
2.What would your suggestion be in order for the rookie to achieve an optimal
first experience?
3.Any "unwritten" track etiquette towards other racers?
4. Is it imperative to have track side mechanical assistance?
Thanks

It's better if you're with a team of drivers than on your own. Others can show you the ropes.
It's easier if you have track support rather than try to do things on your own...you will be busy enough just trying to figure out where to go, who to see, what to bring and where, that working on the car is difficult to do. Later on, when you have the routine down, then you'll find time.
Have fun...remember to breath....

I can see at least 4-5 separate threads after your 1st race.
Good luck Pablo.

1. Ask the opinion of a bunch of people online is the best advice.
Outside of that.
Be smooth and predictable. Drink lots of water. Don't forget to breathe during the start.

Remember that to finish first, you must first finish. I wouldn't even waste time thinking about winning, you likely won't unless you're racing against nothing but a couple of 924's. Concentrate instead on the following, in order:
1) get through turn 1 cleanly at the start, without losing too many places
2) then focus on picking up your line and running it, despite all the distractions
3) Now remember that there are flag stations out there - try to find them all again and remember to watch them.
4) Now figure out if you have any laps left (lap count at start/finish) to race
5) back to focusing on your line, see if you can make ground on anyone in front
6) oh, yeah, watch your rearview for lap traffic, or anyone faster who failed to complete Turn 1 lap 1, and is rushing to get back to his party...
7) - don't forget to go to Tech!!! (assuming tech/impound rules at PCA are like SCCA)

Stay Calm and relaxed. Don't worry about runing up front or really fast. Stay alert and watch for other cars
Don't hype yourself up too much. Don't expect to "win". My goal in my first race was just to blend it and not stand out. That mean not off course stuff, no "WTF moves" just circulating around cleanly without being in the way. I was lucky enough to race a couple guys in my firs weekend and it was a nice bonues, but a victory for me was to just come away clean without the other racer looking at me an shaking their heads.
Don't race in practice or qualy. This means don't contest a corner. Racing is for later on. Also if not racing for class position allow the other guys to race by. Don't pull off, but be ready to yeild an apex and also use point bys. They are not required, but help the other cars figure their way around.
No more important than at a DE.

Make sure you have all of your gear together. Helmet, gloves, etc. It may sound ridiculous but your nerves are going to be on overload. If possible,, have someone help you get strapped in so that everything is done properly. I have heard several stories of racers forgetting to put on thier steering wheel or leaving their helmet unstrapped, etc.
Other than that, keep the shiny side up and bring it home in one piece.
