Paolo - just relax (it's hard) and have fun which is the whole point. Take it too seriously and you won't have much pleasure.

I'm entering my first club race in March. My plan (and I'm really not joking) is as follows:

1) Keep at least two wheels on the track at all times.
2) Keep car pointed in the right direction
3) Don't hit anything or anyone
5) Keep up as best I can
4) Have a blast

If I can accomplish all of that, I'll consider it a big success. I'll worry about being competitive later.

Hey Dave....since you have become a pro coach, you have been stingy with your advice....
Whatz up? Are you saving your secrets for your clients?...

+1 But in all seriousness. Go have fun, Stay outof trouble in the first lap and then settle in to race those of you lap speed. Be aware of the over taking traffic if there is any It doesn't hurt to point by the leaders. If they are obviously faster and not in you class just point them by, you both will be faster.
The first race you will have more butterfies than you can imagine, Just take a deep breath and survive. Oh yes DON"T HIT ANY THING!

I haven't just become one. I have been doing it for a while now. But Seth and I have teamed up and put it on our RL signature lines for a little pimpin'.

What advice would you like? Not trying to be stingy.

And yes, I save the best stuff for clients.

Make a checklist, and be ready to go half an hour before line-up.

Keep checking your mirrors. Don't make aggressive passes, but don't drive like a scared rabbit either.

Understand the passing rules for your sanctioning body (what constitutes owning a corner, race room).

You'll be much more exhausted at the end of the race than you've ever been after a DE session. If heat is any kind of a factor, drink lots of liquids.

if you don't already have them, the little round convex mirrors on your side mirrors really help you see who is in your blind spot

very helpful to know how much room you have in the turn...

I'd highly recommend these also. I started off with a small ~2" diameter one but I think I'm gonna swap it out with the biggest one I can find that will fit on there. I find myself mainly concentrating on the small convex mirrors and not really using the normal mirror.

Bring a change of undies...the OS moments in CR arent quite like the DE kind...

Seriously, I would say the best piece of advice for you would be to just relax as much as possible and to (as others have said and common sense dictates) NOT hit ANYTHING. Until your a fully licensed driver, its better to take a 6-XX wthout any contact than a 1-5 with...

Pablo, I give you the same advice a wise old veteran (Fred S) gave me right before my first race:
"Go home now while you still can - you'll save thousands!"
I didn't listen & crashed on the first corner of the first lap, too (not my fault, except for not taking the good advice I was given).
There you have it. You have been warned!
