Yes, this was truly a wonderful gentleman.

Like so many car guys, my early introduction to Phil Hill was through his pieces for Road & Track.

About 6-years ago Phil was the dinner speaker at the Zone 1"Tech Tactics" in Springfield, MA. He brought along his personal slide collection and Phil's commentary was so much fun I didn't want his talk to end. We all enjoyed listening to Phil that evening.

There was no pretense about him. Humble . . . you wouldn't know that he was one of the great all-time racers.

Rest in peace.

Richard

Wow , this was not expected , I met Phil Hill about 10+ years ago at a Ferrari Challenge event, that was taking place at Moroso motorsport park where his son was entered to race . Sad to hear this .

Yes it was. During the F1 race last weekend, Varsha mentioned the Phil was rushed to the hospital in Monterey on his way to the Pebble Beach Historics, for an unknown malady. Something was up last week, sadly.

Don't mean to butt in here, not being a racer, but I met him (very briefly) in 1962 when he was inducted into our high school hall of fame. Class guy. Ditto on the RIP.

What someone already said, I grew up reading/knowing about him through R&T.
I met him at Monterey Historic race in Laguna Seca many years ago and he really was true champion!
GODSPEED...
