Default Phil Hill - 1927 - 2008

Shortly after 10 a.m. PST, America's first World Champion, Phil Hill, passed away in a Monterey County, Calif., hospital as a result of respiratory problems complicated by Parkinson's disease. Hill was 81.

So very sad. He most certainly had a good run though. He helped put the US on the map in road racing.

Absolutely. Gave us Yanks so credibility at the time. I sat next to him a few years ago on a flight to or from an F1 race. Very soft spoken, gracious guy. RIP
