Default Phil Hill - 1927 - 2008

Shortly after 10 a.m. PST, America's first World Champion, Phil Hill, passed away in a Monterey County, Calif., hospital as a result of respiratory problems complicated by Parkinson's disease. Hill was 81.

RIP, One of the greatest American drivers and the only natural born American to win the WDC! He's now off to that race track in the sky

So very sad. He most certainly had a good run though. He helped put the US on the map in road racing.

Absolutely. Gave us Yanks so credibility at the time. I sat next to him a few years ago on a flight to or from an F1 race. Very soft spoken, gracious guy. RIP
