Despite the fact the car ripped apart, the fact Scotts okay after a collision like that speaks to the level of safety with the DP's, here's that shunt from long beach-

One of the more boneheaded moves in racing. The other was that DP (Barber?) that came on track an pounded (flipped) one of the RX8 (Hamm?) GT cars.

DPs are tough, though. Glad to hear Scott is OK. Credit his amazing physical condition.

All of us at the instructor's meeting with Schattenbaum were warned about the entrance to the front straight being shared with pit in.....

Say what you will about the "ugliness" of the DP cars (which I don't believe) the fact that the tub remained intact and he was able to literally walk away is a great design feature.
Glad he's OK and I hope to see the team back in action this weekend.

1. i am glad scott is ok, he always makes me laugh when he starts his interviews with "hello to my family at home"

being in construction (commercial buildings) why would someone build a track like this and not think that this would be a potential problem. I could understand if this was built way back when, but this is a modern day track, not even a yr old. And i thought the people behind this track had experience with other big tracks. I am not blaming anyone but to me this sounds like a design screw up!

Glad that Scott's okay.

I'll throw in my noob's 2 cents and predict that NJMP gets rid of that giant white turtle and reconfigures that section of the track...ASAP. If not, then the track will contine to see incidents like this and quite often.

At our DE, a week ago, many of us experimented with putting 2 on this turtle and it DOES NOT feel good.

Total writeoff, but its part of the design. The more parts that fly off the car, the more energy that's dissipated into those parts flying and not into the person in the cockpit. The parts can be replaced...
Glad Scott's okay.

The track has previously made changes to the pit in area. They are restricted by the bridge which is where the access is to pit in. When I spoke with a track official last week. There is really nowhere to move it to. I would look back to the designer of the track for a solution.
Thrilled Scott is OK, and hopes are for the team to be back in the saddle on Sunday!
