Make sure you have the correct belt angles/geometries when you're in the seat with suit/HANS on. If in doubt, ask.

Yep.
they affect both performance of the device in a crash and comfort of the device when in normal use.

As mentioned;

The H&N is a no-brainer. You know you should have one. The question is which, and then if it is a HANS, that you find someone who REALLY knows how to set up the system so that it all works together (that's probably the hardest part of ANY equipment upgrades). A HANS has VERY specific parameters within which it works to its optimum level. If you stray from that, the potential perrformance will degrade rapidly and signficantly.

...Hopefully, if we are to hit the wall, we will all suffer as soft an event as the one pictured.

Please also keep in mind the PCA requirement for 'equal seats/equal restraints' for both driver and passenger.

Nothing like climbing into a stock right seat with a 3 point belt and looking over trying to find the student, tucked away behind a full containment seat, right side net, H&N restraint, HALO, etc .......

Thanks for the confirmation- I knew it was time.
Is anyone using the sliding tether system shown here:
http://www.stand21.fr/hans/hans-2.html

Sport model with the sliding tether looks good. The guys at Stand21 can properly install it for me. Stand21's stuff is fxxg expensive (thank you week dollar) but its primo and you don't need to think about upgrading in the near future so you only pay once if you know what I mean.

I'll talk to them.

Yes
This has been discussed here before and is a DIY installation (no need to return the HANS to H&D for installation).....$75 USD IIRC.

H&N? Yes. Your head is a required part.

T4 at Summit Point. All but the car were unhurt. Proof that T4 is not a flat out turn for some cars.

It is a no brainer. I got one early last year and they were still a rearity at DE. I got a few looks: Beginner w/seats, belts, HANS? Who does he think he is? I shrugged it off because I only have one neck and thought my wife and children would appreciate my taking care of myself as best as possible playing such a dangerous sport. Now they are pretty common.

I got mine from Ron at Disccovery Parts. He helped me set up my belts and made sure the angles were correct.
Don't buy the new cheapy model. Way too heavy. Get the regular or the Pro model like I did.

It is like VISA. Never go on track without it!

I can't see why weight is an issue with a HANS once it's sitting on your shoulders and you are belted in tight....at that point IMHO it's fit/comfort more than weight (since it's not unsupported weight, like a helmet).

Or am I missing something?

Thanks all. You saved my neck.

Did anyone find they needed the inflatable padding? I recall someone saying it cut into his shoulders and was unwearable. Or was this on earlier gen. models perhaps.

Its just more weight on your shoulders/neck...and that takes a toll after a good deal of time on the track...plus, it hurts like a bitch the next morning. Its only another 200 or so and again, its your neck, isnt that worth it?

It is an inconsequential amount of weight. It is not detectable after a minute of two. It is $200 wasted on bling.
