Default A dentist friend of mine is looking into doing DEs.......

in a Porsche.......( I still don't know why.....)

He wants to learn quickly and be fast...... (top dog in his group)

He is not the type to drive an older, slower 911......

So with a top budget of 100K....

what would you suggest for him to get?.........And why?......

(Obvioulsly he doesn't want to take my advice of "learn to drive a slow car, well and fast")

This is my way to give back.....

Hey Dr. Pain, very clever way to start another incendiary thread!

Tell "him" that what he gets for a car really doesn't matter. All he has to do is shut-up, pay attention and learn...then apply what he learns. If he does that well, he will be "top dog in his group" fairly quickly. Of course, the first thing he needs to learn is how to properly define "top dog" in any particular group.......

How long is it going to take "your friend" to get to black?

Stock 997 with all the safety mods (cage, seats, harnesses). Fast enough to be fun, yet very easy to drive. Once he learns a bit, he'll buy an all out race car & a trailer anyway, so might as well learn with a really safe car.

Well..... I guess no good deed ever goes unpunished......

He is 12 years my senior, and I applaude his intentions.....

I guess top dog in a DE means you don't stick your hand out very often......

Why, are 996 GT3s hard to drive?........

The Cayman S doesn't have enough HP for him....... he wants to be a real man and drive a 911........

I guess it is all my fault......I "kind" of brainwashed him........

'cause he can be top of GREEN in no time with just about anything Advice (as usual) would be: buy a good, capable car, spend the rest on seat time! Plenty 'O hot shots in their GT3's have has their a$$ run over by much slower car because they realized they 1) aren't that fast (the driver) after all, or 2) they decide wadding up their prized possession isn't worth it............or 3) they just suck and have WAY to much money to spend and just like telling their friends they race around in their really expensive Porsche ............and no one but them are impressed!

SEAT TIME, SEat TIme, seat time...........please for all our sake
