Amazingly, the thing works. I now have power to my camera from the cigarette lighter outlet. No more dead camera batteries!
Mike,

Very nice explanantion. However, for me with absolutley no technical ability, one important picture is missing. I understand the clipping of in-car charger and AC-adapter wires and connecting them together, but what is at other end of the wire in this picture? The USB connector, the AC-adaptor, or...?

Thanks

It may not be for a day or so, but I'll try to post another photo. What is at the other end is the mini-USB connector from the AC power adaptor.

I just did the same install using the Aiptek car charger and Aiptek wall charger. Works like a charm.

This camera seems to use less battery power at lower resolution. I recorded three sessions one day at the lowest resolution (only had a 1gig card) and I was down from 3 bars to 2 at the end of the day.

Here's what I did to get an external mic jack. Not too pretty, but it should work well. Still uses the original mic, but will switch to the external one when I plug it in. Just need to figure out where I want to put the mic. I guess in the floor board behind the seat would be OK. Should be able to test it out this Sunday.

Some of the guys on "Steve's Digicams" forum gave me the idea, but they didn't think of this location for the jack.

Question for all the Aiptek users. What is the easiest/fastest software on Windows to edit your vids. All I want to do is load up a track session and then cut out a few of the good laps. Nothing fancy. Currently just to do that it seems to want to render it for several minutes or longer.

Thanks!

I bought a 720. Do these camera have a auto shutoff feature if the camera is turned on, but idle? I turned it on before getting belted in and when I tried to record with the remote after sitting on the grid for 10 minutes, the camera had shut off.

My one does. Check in the setup options - I also had to disable that feature.

yes, happened to me as well. Go into setup and disable auto off.

other issue is the battery vibrating and turning off the camera... Just push up on the battery into the contact pins and then find something suitable to wedge in there. I used some very thing foam packing wrap.

If you can cut a piece off an old credit card or something similar that is about perfect to wedge in there.

Thanks to this thread, I have already taken care of the battery problem. I used thin cardboard, but like the credit card idea. Next project is to make the power cord to run the camera using in-car 12V.

Crazy... I've had no such issues with vibration or auto shut off.

What I do need is decent editing software. The including software is not good... vimeo has trouble converting the videos it spits out. Guess I have to kick down for Premiere.

QuickTime Pro works well for me. I think it's $25.
