Looking at both of these for my first set of R compounds. From what I understand they are same compound with different tread pattern. Nitto's are cheaper which is a plus, but if the R888 are a better choice then I would go that route. I did not know if anyone has run both of these and give me what tire was preferred ould be great.

Both are good. I had a student last year at Sebring, running NT01's on a track-modified Mitsubishi Evo. Very good traction for a street legal tire, every bit as good as the RA-1. But not as suitable on a wet track as the RA-1 or the R888.

both have the same compound and construction since Nitto is manufactured by Toyo. The only difference is the thread pattern/design.

Toyo T1R = Nitto NT555
Toyo RA1 = Nitto NT555R
Toyo R888 = Nitto NT01

but different patterns sometimes changes the characteristic too..

I've had both recently on my GT3 and I even though they have the same rubber compound, the Nittos are much more consistant over the life of the tire. The R888s needed more time to scrub in to get to their optimal grip. During the middle life of the tire, they were great as they had a very nice "Sweet Spot", but as they wore, they lost grip as compared to Nittos or RA1s. They heat up nicely, but over long runs, they get over heated and greasy.

I'm able to get $200 off a set of Toyo's and no discount on the Nittos, but I'm going back to the Nittos regardless.

From what I've been reading, I am glad I got the Nitto but will only be able to make my own critics in 2 weeks.

I've heard the NT-01 is a bit more consistant but havn't tried them for the same reason I only ran the old RA-1 on my car for a short period...that being the unavailability of sizing that I was looking for.

I wish they'd release the NT-01 in the same sizing as the R888 as I'd buy them in a heartbeat but the 285 and 295 sizing which is offered in the R888 and not the NT-01 are a much better fit for my car so I went the R888 route.

Interesting, I'm on my 3rd set of R888's, and am very happy, but will try the Nitto's just for ****s and giggles on my next set if they have the same sizes that I am not running on the RS. (255/315's)

negative on the 255 front. You'd have to go to at 245 front. And no 305 if you wanted to make the same adjustment down in the back that you'd have to make in the front.

Not sure I'd want 315 in back with only 245 up front.

me neither both for balance and with my lowely 295hp car. I ran 235/275 RA-1's on my car for a short period...Balance was fine, car drove great it was just lacking a little overall grip. I'd do it again if I could find a nearly new set of tires for what I had in those.

That must be why I never tried the Nitto's. I don't even care that much about the width of tire, especially the rear has more then enough grip, but I like the lower profile on the 255/315 combo, which makes it seem like the car wants to settle into it's suspension much quicker.

I just bought a NT01 235/275 combo for my 01 996 C2. Discount tire has 10% off right now. I paid 862.80 for the set including heat cycling and shipping. I think this is a great price.

Also just put on NT01's at 245/275 on a 996. Will see how it goes in a week at the track. I paid $970 from Discount (damn), but still quite a bargain vs. 888. A bit of tread noise vs. streets, but not bad. I think 245 would be better on a 9" rim as I look at it.

the noise of the NT-01's can't be as bad as the R888's...they howl even going straight down the road.
