RA-1's faster than R888's?

I am on RA1's now in a stock 2007 Carrera S. I have 5 track days on them and did not get them shaved. They were scarey up until the last 2 track days.
I was thinking of getting the R888 next or maybe the Nitto NT01. What other tire would be good for me. I am not racing, just doing DE's and driving from Tampa to Sebring or Daytona for these DE's. So I need a streetable tire and one that wear a long time.

The Pirelli's are not well thought of on the other coast.

I would say the NT01's, I don't have first hand experience with them but the R888's yes. The R888's are damn noisy on the street, heat up quickly but are kind of finicky to pressures. I hear NT01's are great both on and off track, grip down to the last heat cycle and wear out slow!

Thanks! I only put my track tires on to drive over to Sebring from Tampa so i am not worried about road noise. However I want good wear and grip. My RA1's are working good now that I've worn them down from full tread but I like to try different products and will go with a different tire next time around. NT01's are on my list.
If you need pilot cup sports I have 295/30-18's I can't use let me know.

looks like the speed gt folks are having no problems with the R888s. their times after the first practice are near the record times for last year. a bunch of cars in the 1:26s and the record is in the 1:25.
this is not even with qualifying and only in practice so far. I think this is a good indicator that the tires are pretty much the same. Lets see how they work in the race, and see if the lap times at the end fall off to be sure tomorrow.

I couldn't resist the low price of the NT01's and I bought a set. After next weekend I'll be able to report on how the stack up against the Hoosiers at Summit Point.

O.K., Mark, give us the skinny on how the set up is different for the R888 versus the RA1.

I have the pirelli Corsa system that came on my GT3, I think they are an excellent tire vary soft but a good stiff sidewall. Some of the experienced guys (not me) use them as rain tires. I drove mine in the rain today and did pretty well. the problem is that it costs a ton. 525 per tire (rear) so, I am going to go to the R888 when the time comes. I have approx 6 track days(3 two day events) on them and would guess I may get 6 more on the rear the front are good for twice that.

My car is totally stock and with the 19" stock wheels with PS2's I feel the car turns crisper compared to the CCW 18" wheels and the Toyo RA1's. Could it be the stock set up needs the stiffer side wall of the PS2's over the softer RA1's?
If this is the case what tire out on the market has a stiff side wall but does not cost a fortune like the PS2's?

More proof, that the new C6 GT2 and Viper cant even run as fast as the SpeedGT guys on these R888s, and they run slicks!! actually, their qualifying times would have put them in the front of the SpeedGT group, but not by much so, i guess that answers the question of the performance of the new vs old R888s. world challenge GT cars are running just as fast.

I wonder how much they are shaving them?

I ran Buttonwillow yestesterday, full course CCW on the used R888's. I put the remaining 2 shaved tires (6 HC's) to the inside, and ran my full depth practice tires on the outside with 16 HC's. They lasted all day and felt OK so I kept them on for qual and the race. They went away about halfway thru the race but were still good enough for second place amoong the 4 Spec Boxsters. The full depth tires now have 22 HC's on the them and remarkably they still look good. The shaved tires now with 12 HC's are at the end of their tread life....
