Default 12 Volt Air Compressor.... Suggestions ?

Some tracks have air pumps available to fill your tires... some do not. I have a $29 K-Mart special, which is basically a POS.

I would like to get a decent 12-Volt air compressor to keep in my trailer for trackside use. Must be 12-Volt.

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Thanks

.

A Sears air tank is $20. Fill it up at any gas station and you've got plenty of air anywhere you go.

They're heavier than the cheapy compressors, though. You can get an aluminum Harbor Freight model for $50 and save 15 pounds of carrying weight.

Default George - go big or go home!

Honda + DeWalt = all the air I need, all the time. Tires, impact guns, air nozzles, whatever. Anything but air jacks. Probably overkill for most though.

The pump I use at the track is from Griots Garage. Its fast and effective and not plastic. Not a POS.

Looks interesting. How long have you had it?
About how quickly does it pump a track tire from 23 PSI to 35 PSI ?

My 944 and 968's both came with the little Porsche model. 'Course, you still need to have an operational cigarette lighter in order to use them

if you've got a trailer why not get a nitrogen tank?

A portable tank and a POS 12 volt pump can cover track tire tweaks just fine with little cost or effort. If the tank runs low you can top it off at the track air pump, gas station or use the POS $15 pump. Add an $5 in-line desiccant filter to the tanks air hose and you are golden. Use any air fill to keep the tank filled and the desiccant filter will remove moisture to a -40 deg dew point from the air as you fill the tire. -40 is super dry. Look at painter supply shops or Granger for the in line desiccant filters. Desiccant filters are not the commonly seen water traps. They have little granules that change color when they are saturated. All the + of nitrogen fills without the cost of a heavy tank and regulator.
Putting the air in the portable tank and then into the tire helps remove water too. The tank cools the air and much of the water condenses out. Water that spits out from wet air lines gets trapped in the tank rather than being shot right into your tires. Some time ago I hooked up a blow gun to the air line at VIR and it was spraying wet mist with visible droplets.

I think just a few minutes. The volume of air in super low-profile tires simply isn't that much. In all fairness, a tank is a better solution for filling up tires at the track. However, if you don't have the space to carry a big tank around, this little pump is super efficient and has worked well for me the last 2 years.

Because you have to remember to fill the nitrogen tank.

Get away from the 12 volt (needing to plug the dang thing into cig lighter) and get a Campbell Hausfield rechargeable.

Nitrogen, no electric devices needed.
