Last Chance to Drive the "Old" Lime Rock
The season is fast approaching and we've all heard about the pending reconstruction and repaving at Lime Rock. The last I heard is that there will be a modification to the downhill, the esses, and possibly the uphill (safety related). I know many complain about the condition of the track, but I also know I am going to enjoy these few last dates on a course that has been my "home track".
There are a few PCA DE's scheduled before they close up for the bulk of the work.
April 5 with CVR (sold out in 36 hours).
April 16-17 with NNJ, I think the only 2-day PCA DE (motorsportregistration).
CVR Club Race / DE from April 24-26 (clubregistration).
May 1 with HCP (HCP web site).

When exactly does the track shut down to allow for repaving?
How long are they going to let it cure?
Are they still going to use concrete at certain turns in order to help keep the asphalt from breaking up?
Why do I picture a bunch of cars circulating around Lime Rock Park, passing cops drinking coffee, while work crews pave the track?

This is going to be an interesting one for sure. Some construction has started and look to be doing stuff that can coexist with an operational track. Only window for shut down is after Memorial Day Grand-Am and will open back up for ALMS on 7/9 or so.
Maybe they'll use Sundays to get some of the near-track work done but I would imagine paving will be closer to the ALMS date.
Plan on it being a construction zone for the next few months.

With what little I know about asphalt, it would seem to make the most sense to pave the track towards the end of the season, allowing it to cure over the winter/spring.

We had the same discussion going when Summit did their repave the weekend before a race weekend. I wonder how that surface is holding up.
Maybe there's some new fangled quick cure pavement available.
Then there's Thunderbolt, they put a layer down in the fall, will do another this Spring and let it cure until they open in July.
