Has anyone received their "Hoosier Contingency Kit" (decals and sew-on Hoosier patch) yet?

John H,

Any chance of you going to VIR at the end of this month for the MidAtlantic NASA race?

Umm. I was thinking about doing it but then I signed up for the PCA race at Road Atlanta. Never been to Road Atlanta before so...

You should PM Mark Lee and nudge him over to the darkside (NASA)

I decided to go to VIR this year instead. 5 hours vs 11 hours for me. I did the PCA Road Atlanta Club Race last year... what a track! It was awesome. It was the 1st time in my car and 1st time at that track... somewhat of a ballsey maneuver on my part. Anyway, when you go under the bridge for the 1st time and come down that hill like a roller coaster ride remember this message... it's pretty crazy the first couple of times. Before you know it, you will go through it without lifting. Have a blast!

As for Mark, I have been telling him all last year what a great time NASA is as well. I think he will give it a go in due time. I have managed to get Tim Costa involved this year. As they say Rome wasn't built in a day!

Thanks, guys, and thanks John for the great (offline) info. The contingency program has really piqued my interest in NASA, but I'm not convinced that my car or I would be remotely competitive in GTS3. The M3's are putting down some realy fast lap times. I very much enjoy racing with PCA, so the only reason I would go to NASA is to have a shot at winning tires so I can further sustain this sport. Since I have no desire to put in a R&P, run slicks or get the weight of my car down to 2600 lbs, I'm not convinced that a stock 993 is the way to go in GTS3.

I wonder if PCA would consider a contingency program with Hoosier or BFG? Would there be any reason for them not to?

Mark,

I think you could run GTS2. You are right at the boarder line. Maybe a little added weight that you could remove for PCA races. Your car should be about 3100 to 3200 lbs w/ gear, fuel and driver? RWHP should be around 220-230? At the fly wheel the 993 non-varioram was what 275? The formula is weight (with gear and driver) divided by RWHP. All you have to do is get to a 14.5 factor (see below).

D.O.T.
Race Tires
GTSU = 5.99 and lower
GTS5 = 6.0 – 8.49
GTS4 = 8.5 – 10.99
GTS3 = 11.0 – 14.49
GTS2 = 14.50 – 18.49
GTS1 = 18.50 and higher

Thanks for the info, Derek. I'll have to look more closely at the rules and see if my car can be in a better class.
