Default Rolex 24 pics at the Busstop Chicane

Entrance and exit of Turn 7, the Busstop Chicane. Most of the DP's never even touch their brakes entering off of the backstretch!

How many wheels broke off during that race? I see you got one.

It was very interesting. It came off of a 911 after a pit stop. It rolled halfway down the backstretch right up against the wall and came to rest where my pic shows it--we were praying it wouldn't slow down and roll across the track and get hit. They came out and collected it at the next double-yellow. I've never seen that before!

When they first came out I thought the DP cars were ugly (always preferred the ALMS prototypes) but they are growing on me. Saw one last summer at a national race at Road America and it was fast and loud, and impressive. Just your typical SCCA club racing car...

As I recall, there was a similar incident for Guy Cosmo Spirit of Daytona DP. It was amazing that the wheel stayed against the wall. I remember it mostly because it was the only time the car got mentioned and they noted its Cayenne V8 powerplant.

Was this another incident? lol?

I felt so disappointed when the 59 porsche dp took the lead and before you knew it, it was going into the wall. I just couldn't believe that......

No doubt, they were talking big about it and then *boom* it practically exploded.

A car in the 24 lost a wheel one time at Daytona in between NASCAR 3 and 4. The tire rolled against the wall all the way around to the tri-oval were it finally came across the track and the grass towards pit road. It was still moving pretty good. A marshal attempted to kick it over and stop it from rolling. He got a broken leg for his troubles!

Nice shots of the bus stop. Looks like the exit is a bit up hill or is that optics from the camera angle?

The Busstop is quite exciting. The speeds through it are deceptively fast. There is a slight rise and dip on exit.

dmw44, would it be possible to get a couple of these in higher res? Am going to see one of the #74 drivers in a couple of days and if ok by you, would like to print out one or two for him.

No problem. I have other pics of the 74 and 14. PM with an e-mail address and I'll send them to you. Regretfully, my Canon digital is not the best camera for racing pictures...
Cheers, Doug
