Default Rolex Daytona 1st Day of Pratice

A familiar face topped the GT time charts, as Andy Lally turned the day's fastest lap in the No. 66 TRG Mitchell Rubber/Marquis Jet Porsche GT3 Cup. Lally's time of 1:51.386 (115.059 mph) was one of 10 GT machines to top last year's GT pole time of 1:51.800.

Yippeeee, Margo and I will be crewing for TRG again at the 24, and Andy is a friend so this is great news.

Holy Moly either the 08 cars are that much better or they let the cat out of the bag early.

Nobody said they're making weight yet, or fuel loads ;-). We always used the first day just to check out the car's systems, assembly, and get the drivers back out at speed. Tomorrow we'd start making sure the car is compliant. Not too many tech inspections at practice.

Thanks for the pics Tom! That one shot on the turn plates with strings really illustrates the ride height differences from side to side the car needs to have for the high speed banking!

New tires are making a the cars faster this year, and as always the 08 Grand- AM Cups will be faster than the 07's.

What is the deal with the tires in '080? I can't seem to find the details anywhere in the rules.

They switched from Hoosier to Pirelli tires as the spec tire.
