Default NA$CAR wind tunnel

I know, NA$CAR and wind tunnel seems a bit of an oxymoron, but here it is:

Racecar engineering covered that a month or 2 ago. Kinda interesting.

Sort of like Evernham testing at that 4 mile long runway at Kennedy Space Center...

Very interesting. Nice find Lewis. Doesn't seem to mesh with VR's pictures of the hick with the #3 shaved into his back, does it?

Yeah, they had a neat article on it. I wanna say it was the Nov '07 issue DTM cars on the front cover.

Don't Y'all boys know that Nascar roots are in Moonshine ?

The windtunnel is a front for the "White Lightnin" production.

They won't need them in the future with the spec CoT.

NASCAR's been using the Lockheed wind tunnel in Marietta GA for at least 20 years.

These articles always seem so fake. A lot of what ifs and could bes. Obviously, it's not hard to get close to the place. Locals probably see haulers going in and out of there. The writer just spewed a lot of hype without really saying anything.

I think you mean "will be". Very cool. I would think they'd put a cowling around the rolling road to avoid turbulence, but maybe they will once it's built.

That new WindShear facility is about 3 miles from my house... Wish I could get the 930 into it

I agree that it is the best "public" wind tunnel, but I beg to differ with their claim that it is the only rolling wind tunnel in North America and only 3 are in existence worldwide. These guys have one in San Clemente and have built a couple overseas.

The windhseer tunnel is for full scale cars not 30-50% models like the one you posted. It may very well be one of only 3 tunnels for full scale cars.

You can rent a windtunnel for $3500 introductory cost. We organized a club collection on another website and put a bunch of Datsun Zcars in the tunnel here:

http://www.aerodynwindtunnel.com/

They'll provide you with one of their engineers (We used Bob Smith, sharp dude!) and you'll be able to run as many tests as you like, but you are on a time clock, so keep that in mind. They can trail smoke, or any number of other tests.

You can see some of the video of our tests, and some of the spreadsheet data we collected at www.nissansportmagazine.com to get an idea of the facility and a day doing tests there!

For $3500 it was a wealth of info and a real education!

They have two tunnels, one the nascar boys use for $10K per hour, and the smaller tunnel we used.

Thanks. It's just not a NASCAR Christmas without that photo. Merry Christmas!
