BF Goodrich R1 tire experiences wanted
Now that the end of the track season is over for many of us (), I wonder if we can get some posts as to experiences with this track tire and how it compares with Hoosiers.
I am particularly interested in performance and longevity.
Curiously, search didn't yield a lot of chatter on this topic.
Thanks

You will have some good hits from searching "bfg r1". I have posted a few times. For me they were the same lap time (best to the 100th) as the R6s under worse conditions (85F/humid BFGs vs 70F/dry R6s), so maybe/probably faster....didn't / can't run them back to back.
I'll be at Summit w/ the BFGs this weekend, but w/ the repave, there will be no way to tell there.
Only 8 hc on them now, so not sure about longevity.

Thanks Jim - I'd love to hear how they perform with more heat cycles.
2 track friends (sharing a 993 similar to mine) use them, thinking that they are a longer-lasting substitute for Hoosiers (you go through a lot of tires when the car is shared by 2 drivers and it does 50 track days/year!). They are happy so far.
Have fun at Summit- I have only been there twice but would love to see the repaved track.

Umm, can't you guys go back to HWFM racing and let me get on with my BF Goodrich thread? I know you miss the dentist, but I need to learn more about longer lasting fast tires (oops).

I know that K & D really like the BFGs but I thought they were only good for 10 or 12 heat cycles and then they would fall off sharply. Don't forget that they are often times running back to back run groups, which may only count as one heat cycle. I haven't tried them so I can't help you but if you are getting down around 10 HCs a set you may want to start thinking about slicks. On the GT3, Michelin slicks ( S8A, S7A compounds ) are at least $200 cheaper than Cups.

I know it's not a true apples to apples comparison, but I ran 7 HC R1s back-to-back w/ scrubbed S05s. The S05s were ~.6 sec faster at Summit before the repave on a warm day. Assuming R1s slow similarly to S05s with incremental heat cycles, I'd say they're relatively close.
Can't comment on R1 longevity as the 7HC set was borrowed from a friend.
