BF Goodrich R1 tire experiences wanted
#16
I ran them in 944Cup and turned my fastest ever lap(in the 944) at Mid-Ohio,1:43.8, when they were on the 9th heat cycle. They do not go away or get greasy during a race...very consistent feel. I am running them next season and will not miss the Hoosiers at all. I may get a set for the 964 as well!

Rick,
I tried the BFG R1's at the Summit Point race. They seem as fast as Hoosier R6's and about a second faster than old MPSC's with twenty plus heat cycles that I was using for practice, which is a very similar performance difference that I experienced with R6's. Whether they are faster than R6's, I do not know. I will say that in our fairly warm conditions, I never felt as if the R1's got greasy.

I know that K & D really like the BFGs but I thought they were only good for 10 or 12 heat cycles and then they would fall off sharply. Don't forget that they are often times running back to back run groups, which may only count as one heat cycle. I haven't tried them so I can't help you but if you are getting down around 10 HCs a set you may want to start thinking about slicks. On the GT3, Michelin slicks ( S8A, S7A compounds ) are at least $200 cheaper than Cups.
Wow - if its that short a # of heat cycles, then I am headed in the wrong direction!
I actually bought the Hoosiers from K&D; loved them (the tires; well, I like K&D a lot, too), but corded the right rear at 19 heat cycles.
So, since I am now officially into upgrade and maintenance season, I thought I would ask around about tires.
I never thought about slicks; I'll add those to my list of suspects.
Thanks again.

Was this before or after your engine problems in August?
The reason I ask is that, in checking, it looked like almost everyone was running their fastest times at M-O at the NASA nationals mid-September.
Ciao!

Hi Richard!
That was at Nationals in September. Maybe it was just the "heat of the moment"! ...we'll see how they do next season! I think they are faster, Charlie M will be running them as well so we can compare.
