Default Hard Charger Award

Greetings All, The BT (Mike) and I have kicked the idea around for a couple of years about the possibility of resurrecting the "Hard Charger Award" within PCA. It has been dormant for years. The only way to get noticed for a great move within the pack is possibly winning the Worker's Choice. Apparently the AMB timing system can track greatest movement within a race.

BT & I thought:
1) Greatest move from "posted" qualifying session to the end of the race. If you miss the grid (like a number of us did at Mid-Ohio) that may not count.
2) In the event of a tie, the car that finished highest on the sheet wins.

This is simply to recognize someone who may not typically podium but had a great race otherwise. My company doesn't really sell or produce automotive or racing products (custom designed transformers, inductors, and solenoid coils). Since we are in the electronics business, we figured it might be fun to sponsor the "Hard Charger".

Nothing cast in stone, but I would appreciate good input from this group. Thanks.

Sounds like a great idea to me, especially if you're company is willing to sponsor it!

I think it is great. The Worker's Choice award seems so random sometimes. This one sounds like it would be a nice thing to strive for.

As this would potentially be for each race (sprint & enduro), I thought of a patch for the suit similar to the saferacer award with a seperate year designation, a sticker for the side of the car similar to the fighter planes in WWII and send out a certificate suitable for framing after the weekend?

Recognition of any type is always a good idea. Give it a try.

First of all--You and BT getting together and "thinking about stuff" makes me nervous
Seriously though, Chris this is a great idea and a very kind offer by you.

Great idea. The sticker sounds good.

Don't make it too nice or guys will start sandbagging in qualifying to get the better-than-winning hard charger award.

Here's how it actually came up, Doug.

We were going over next year's schedule and dividing up who would have responisibilities at each track for blocking Crossman to heep him behind us, and let the other one of us charge through the field. We soon realized that if one of us keeps you far enough back, the other could pass a lot of cars. (Well Chris could at least) That led to official recognition for having a great race and passing a lot of cars, a worthy by-product of keeping the Arch-Nemesis in his place. Hence the Hard Charger Award.

Seriously, I think it is a great way to recognize a terrific drive, whereever it began.

And very generous of Chris' company to sponsor it.

Gregg, if you wreck, then I suspect you would have a visit to the black flag station. In the spirit of clean racing, I would say you probably would need to complete a clean race to have a chance.
