Default Private Race Tracks popping up all over!

I've noticed alot of these "Private" race tracks are popping up all over. Alpine Motorsports, Victory Lane, Drive and Race, Autobahn Country Club...

Does anyone plan to build one in California?

Hoepfully this will help control the rental prices at some of the big name tracks. The prices that some places are charging is ridiculous

Thunderbolt Raceway in Millville, NJ, is semi-private. Two tracks, one 2.2 miles and one 1.9 miles. EACH has a rental cost to clubs of MORE than Watkins Glen! Management of the track has been quoted to the effect that other tracks will INCREASE their prices in reaction, especially if Lime Rock ceases to rent to clubs or substantially reduces club dates. Go figure.

I doubt that Summit or Pocono would be overly successful in doubling their rates to be consistent with Thunderbolt. It would only be a slight increase for WGI.

Some of these places seem to be very expensive.

The new one in Georga has a whole housing development built around it like a Golf course. Autobahn West has membership dues close to 100k! It is a lifetime membership, but...

Is anyone a member at a place like this? How does it work?

Tremblant's "Club" is "only" $3500-5500/year plus $50/day to drive the track.

If I could afford it I'd do it in a heartbeat.

We have two in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that have become a reality:

http://www.motorsportranch.com
http://www.eaglescanyon.com

Both are inexpensive and one is brand new. I'm a member of both. There are several others in the works but I don't see them coming through.

High Rock in NC has memberships going for $25k. Corporate for $35k. Annual dues are $3k to start but will probably go up. Lifetime membership. But seems damn expensive...

VIR has $500 initiation, $200/mo dues + track fee. ??

I ponied up for Eagles Canyon membership. Its a bargain. And fresh pavement too! I can't wait for it to be officially open this fall! Its going to be a great track, especially since they modified a few of the turns to make it faster.

It will be interesting to see. During the nineties there was an explosion in golf course construction and today many courses at least here in the east are hurting with low membership rates.

Here in the NE, Between Thunderbolt(NJ), Drive-and-Race(NY), Alpine Valley(PA), Valley Motorsports(NH), and a privatized Lime Rock(CT), I doubt there is sufficient demand to keep them all viable. To some extent, more alternatives may grow the overall market; that would be the rosy scenario. The gloomy scenario is that the overall space gets over-built, all the facilities suffer in terms of profitability, and several fail altogether...

Steve, Pocono is fully booked and really does not care. The revenue from a single Nascar race makes DE funds chump change. SP is also pretty booked. Once the event/track ratio tilts in our direction, then maybe we will see a difference. Hopefully SP repaves in order to keep up.

George, have you heard anything further about the track that was announced in East, Texas? I can't remember the name of it now, but they had all sorts of announcements late last year and I haven't heard anything in a while.

Just got my local BMWCCA newsletter and they are having an event at Eagles Canyon in November the weekend before the PCA event. Should be fun to run it two weekends in a row.

Was that Racer's Ranch? They were advertising on the radio last year.

http://www.racersranch.com/

Their last press release on their website about construction was dated Dec 22 2006 and had said they were supposed to start construction in Q1 2007. Does anyone know if they've actually started laying pavement? Even once construction begins, it seems to take a long time to build a racetrack...

One in CA would be astronomical in price - even in places where land is cheap, private tracks are super pricey (as shown above). I don't see it ever happening here with the price of land as it is, even in the desert. There are private events at all the tracks during the week with various groups (renting the track) for very reasonable pricing - I pay from $130-$360 per day of driving on private events.
