Default Fikse or Fiske, which is it ?!?

Alright, I just have to ask... Everywhere I go I hear people say "Fiske" - as in "Fiss Key". I have a set of Profil 13s on order and I know from the web site, the promotional materials, even from reading the center caps that the company name is "Fikse" - as in "Fick See", or even possibly "Ficks" with a silent E.

At Lime Rock on Thursday I thought I'd wander around the paddock and ask those that own these wheels what they have (in other words - a secret research project where I'd see the Fikse wheels and ask "Nice wheels, what are they?"). Each owner would say "Thanks, they're Fiss Keys". A few guys I asked "Very nice... I thought it was pronounced Fick See, you know, like how the name is spelled..." We'd both ponder and then I'd get a "Hmmm, dunno, always knew them as Fiss Keys..."

So as to attempt to satisfy my curiosity, I consulted with the Great Google. This is not the first time this question has been put to the Collective. Here are some threads I discovered:

i've been wondering this for awhile, how do you properly pronounce Fikse?
i've always heard it said like "fix".

I thought it was Fiskee but someone else told me it was a silent E so just fisk

i've always heard it said like "fix".
"Fix-ee"

I say Fick-see

I cringe when people say "I am gonna get a set of "Fisk" wheels.".

If you get tired of mispronouncing Fikse, you can try to pronounce Favre...

"fick-see" (rhymes with dixie, pixie, etc)

So, which is it? Do I bend to the common usage or do I start a revolt and proclaim to the world they are FICK SEE wheels?

With hope this thread will become the repository for the correct pronunciation of the word Fikse for all eternity. Thank you in advance for your contribution to the effort.

I'm pretty sure it used to say on the website it is Fik-see.

I'm sure they do - I was trying for some humor... and to see if some not in the know might get in the know

Don't count the manufactures reps to know for 'sure'. Ever gone into a Porsche dealer? You hear Por-sha and porsh. They ought to know but,.... PCNA should send out a memo or have pronunciation training for all new hires.

I have always said Fick-see. Like it is spelled.

This sort of reminds me of what I had been thinking about the truth lately. Very often unfortunately truth is what majority believes in or agrees with. If everyone says Fik-see, then fik-see it is regardless of how the creator founder wanted it be pronounced.

Exactly! Just like the Porsche example, probably 90% of the US (with some thanks to Hollywood) says "Porsh". Same with Bimmer vs. Beamer (Hollywood again).

Both Matt Fikse and Travis pronounce the name as "FIK-see", so I figure this is probably the correct pronunciation.

<EDIT> My apologies for the total confusion. My brain said Fikse but my hands typed Fiske. It's "FIK-see".

Do you mean that some people pronounce it bih-mer as opposed to bee-mer? I've never heard bih-mer, and the only people who I've heard say bee-mer are people over 60 (no offense to resident AARP members).

As far as spelling, I thought Bimmer was a car, and Beamer was a motorcycle. Apologies for the thread jack.

No thread jack detected... Cars are Bimmers, Bikes are Beamers - but those not in the know call cars Beamers (every Hollywood movie)...

So, do you think this pronunciation problem could go back generations? If Matt Fikse pronounces his name Fiss Key, then maybe we have to interview his ancestors...
