Two uneventful days at LRP except....
Very sad accident off track at the Skip Barber school for teenage drivers. Two young students in a new MX-5 had a problem during one of the exercises and used the gas instead of the brake, the MX-5, obviously (to me now) a well built car, took down a 30' tall 15" diameter tree, ripped the stump out of the ground, and kept on going in an end-over-end roll. Both girls were taken away by ambulance but (hopefully) were not seriously injured. The most sickening part was some woman, upon my reaching the scene, showing a PICTURE she took with her digital camera of the 1st girl crawling out of the car. I actually wanted to choke her... just walked away.
My thoughts and prayers go out to these girls families, I hope all goes well for them.

If this is a school for teenage drivers, why were two teenagers in the car? Shouldn't it have been an instructor or solo?
The photographer woman sounds like a real idiot.

I'm sure the "why two kids in the car" question will be brought up during the trial.... and yes, she was a classless asswipe to be as polite as I can be..
Oh.. and the Skippy guy that was standing there - "What a shame, that car only had 600 miles on it"...

Enjoyed meeting you on front gate duty today.
So sad about the accident at Skip Barber. As I mentioned to you, they seemed to be much more careful and professional at the racing school - where almost everyone has some experience - than at the car control clinic, where almost no one has any.
I didn't know about the "photographer". Calling her an asswipe is an insult to asswipes everywhere.

Very freak accident, the exercise consists of bringing the car up to 35 mph and threshold brake (in a straight line) to show the students how ABS works.
Obviously, something went wrong and pedals were mixed up, very sad indeed....
