Default Was a sunroof an option on an 82 SC?

The reason I ask is because if it was I can remove the mechanicals and weld it shut for club racing. If it was standard and deleting was an option, I can't.

You can update and back date with-in a model run, so you can remove the sunroof, as there were definitely SCs available without them.

Thanks Larry. Just so I'm clear on what you're saying - I can remove it because within the US spec model run from 78-83 for SC's they at one point had no sunroof as standard on the model.

it has to be metal though. You can't use a fiberglass panel. From folks who have done it, consensus is that it's easier to weld on a new roof skin than weld in just the panel. The compound curves of the roof are hard to replicate.

Hey;

What we're talking here is removing the mechanicals behind the b-pillar so I can tuck the main hoop up under the roof skin tighter. The sunroof panel and its immediate surround will stay in place, urethaned in for all eternity.

As long as a metal panel is permanently affixed PCA is ok.

Yes, and FWIW you can completely remove the A/C too, for the same reasons.

I had the same thought but decided it was a major PITA to take out and put the headliner back in.

The headliner is another story

It resisted John's overtures so he was forced to kill it.

I think this is only true with certain things that PCA has accepted to be OK to do. The problem is a lot of this stuff is not in the rule book.

It is OK for all 911 SC to remove the AC system.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...sc+ac+optional

It is OK to replace stock spoiler and deck lid with one piece fiberglass spoiler and deck lid.

"It has been allowed since way before my time for 911s to replace the rear
deck lid when adding a spoiler, and this just about always means that the
deck lid is a lightweight material, e.g. fiberglass. If the car normally
has an AC condenser mounted to the deck lid, you have to figure out how to
mount the AC condenser to the fiberglass -- the condenser cannot be removed
or relocated."

Larry is correct that since the sunroof was optional, you can undo.

i had the same discussion with Donna when i was preparing my 968 and she OK'd me to remove my sunroof (i decided to leave it so far). Furthermore, Donna noted that additional interior items (i.e. headliner material)could also be removed if necessary to install cage.

i suggest you email Donna, get it in writing, and put a copy in your log book.

I did email her about the sunroof and the headliner. That prompted my question about the sunroof. If it was an option it can be removed. She was not so inclined with the headliner. I think John and I have some convincing to do

I recieved the same headliner ruling from Lance a few years back. Car has to have the headliner according to PCA. Considering it's a 9-11 hour job and a $300+ part to replace the liner I decided to scrap the idea of gutting the sunroof.
