Default Used trailers, what to look for

I have a line on a 2005 28' Pace Pursuit in mint condition for a good price. The trailer is in San Diego, and I would have to travel to get it, what things can I do to make sure it's a good buy before I drive down there? The pics I am looking at show an excellent trailer. I didn't see any 'buying guide for used trailers' type threads so I thougth I would start one.

28' Pace Pursuit
Torsion Axles
10k GVW (radials)
4 D rings
dual manual vents
no lights inside :-(
Alum corners
ATP Stoneguard
Remainder of warranty

Warranty? I had no idea I had a warranty on my Pace trailer.

As for what to look at I will PM you the contact info of another Rennlister that actually has a Pace trailer dealership.

I bought a used 28ft. Pace just a few months ago. It is a 2006 with about 3 months use. I can't express how happy I am with this trailer. It's extremely well built and pulls so much better than my previous 20ft. Haulmark. Please feel free to PM me if you want more details.

As for the San Diego trailer, I just searched on Racing Junk and didn't find it there though I did find this 28ft. Daytona: http://www.racingjunk.com/post/78925...T-DAYTONA.html

I race with the PCA San Diego group so I may be able to find more info on the trailer if you'd like....

Totally agree with JR. I borrowed a friends 20' Haulmark to test out if I even wanted to go down the slippery slope of trailering. I did, and ordered a new Pace 20' of my own. But that Pace pulls like a dream! The ITS is very smooth.

The trailer was not on there, the dude appears to not have used it for car racing that I can see. It's all equiped as such, he just didn't use it. Yeeeees!

Bearings
Brakes
Have both the above serviced before buying no matter what the PO says.

Tires - no sidewall cracking (UV), good tread etc.
Lights function
Damage
Ensure the spring for the ramp door works
No leaks

Make sure it's not stolen ...

12v lights are easy to add after. Sounds like an opportunity to get a good unit at a discount.

what difference is there between a Pace and Haulmark trailer? just curious because I'm looking at a 20' or 24' enclosed Haulmark. what does it do that makes it tow poorly?

Take a look at photos of the axles and wheels/tires to make sure there's not some weird camber or toe issue from the owner having whacked the tires against a curb while driving. I learned this the hard way with my Trailex and had to have the axle replaced after I was roaching tires in less than 2,000 miles.

I think I might take a ladder so I can take a peek at the roof to see if there is any scratches, coorosion, leaking, etc.

This is definitely a "you get what you pay for" industry. I bought a Pace for build quality and reputation. Nationwide warranty service in another great thing.
