Track Tire choice for 997. Need Help!
I just bought a '05 997S this past January. I want to do DE's with this car. I am buying a dedicated set of wheels and track only tires for this car. Since the 997 comes with 19's from the factory and I can only find most track tires in 18's,17's etc. I need some recommendations from you guys for both tire and wheel sizes. Please Help!!!
I have past track experience with Hoosier SO2's, SO3's,SO4's,Goodyear GS-CS, the old BFG R1's, and Dunlop race slicks.

I spoke to a Michelin rep at SEMA last fall and they assured me that they would have the Pilot Sport Cup tires for the 997.
But checking their website they list just 235 fronts and 265 rears in 19". See this pdf: Michelin
In my experience nothing works as well or last as long as the MPSC tires. I've noted reasonable traction from Hooisers but wear was half that of the MPSC. Over the past 2 years I've tried several other brands but always come back to the MPSC. Best R compound on the market? Maybe, maybe not but they do seem to work exceptionally well with 911's.
I would call Michelin and see what's going on with the sizes you need.

I am in the same boat looking for 18s for my 996. I chewed up my Michelin Pilot sports in only 3 DE weekends. I was told for DEs, anything short of racing Toyo Proxes Ra1 are the best. The are still street legal so you can drive them to the track and then run them on the track. I was told Falken Azenis 615 are good as well followed by Toyo T1R. I may go with the Falken Azenis Rt615, they are pretty inexpensive on edgeracing.com.

Thanks for those replies, but I am looking for a tire with a little more grip the the Sport Cups or Toyo's. Don't care to much about wear since most of these tires don't last that long to begin with.
I'll call Hoosier and see what they say. I remember with my old car I needed a good amount of negative camber for the Hoosier's.

I have not heard of anything except MPSC in 19's. If Hoosier is making a tire that is news to me.
My suggestion is to get a set of 18" wheels and go with the Hoosiers. 245/35's in front and either the 295's or 305's in the back.

I called Hoosier. They doNOT make a SO4 or SO5 track tire in 19 inch. So if you have a 997 and want a 19inch off road track tire you are SOL and that is what I am right now. I guess I'll have to go to 18inch wheels and tires.
