Hmmm...
Drive fast, take chances. Don't lift. Don't early apex. Bring Industrial Strength Depends, good beer, and fine cigars... all the usual stuff.
Too much stuff to list, really. Big track. Somebody's got to have some good video around here. Oh yeh...

Kinda goes by fast in a Cup Car! See you there, and, oh... get ready to have fun!

1. Go flat up the esses (from the turn in to the left to the top of the hill)
2. Brake at 0 down the back straight and trail brake all the way. Everyone brakes way to early there.
3. Trail brake into the first part of oak tree...tons of people coast there.

Those three tips will gain you a ton of speed. I was braking at the arrow on the back straight, and started trailbraking into Oak Tree. If you downshift and have to put the gas back in prior to braking again for Oak Tree, you're braking way too early.
The one that got me was the amount of speed you can carry around the left hander at the top of the esses. It must be really cool in a fast car...

There will be plenty of instructors at VIR - If you have never been to VIR before, I would highly recommend that you get someone to go with you on your first run . . . I would also encourage you to ride with an instructor. If you need assistance arranging either of the above, come see one of the organizers in the am or send an email in advance.

From the VIR web site. Not a bad place to start: http://www.virclub.com/track_info/track_photo_tour.html

With all due respect,
1) High HP cars cant go flat thru the climbing esses. High HP street cars cant come close.
2) High HP cars better not brake at O on the back straight.
3) Trail braking around the first "fast" right hander into Oak Tree isnt the fast way around.

Agreed. My mildly prepared street car running 2:20 to 2:21 average laps could not come close to going through the climbing esses at WOT. Not gonna happen and stay ON the track. I also prefer to brake "early" at the end of the back straight so as to be on the gas going into the left hander at the end. Oak tree is a double apex turn. Get your braking done at the first apex and be on the gas at the next by the tree.
Watch the video posted above. The Cup car on slicks is not going up the climbing esses at even half throttle.......... find an instructor and at least ride with them for a few laps. For 90% of the track the learning curve is high.
Have fun.

a couple of VIR tips
Tip from Mike Levitas to me and, another tip passed to me by a very fast mentor & friend Louis.
WARNING THIS ARE 911/TURBO TIPS WORK UP TO THEM CAREFULLY
MIKE "Set your car up for the climbing esses."
( Up to 5th near the end of the strait I drive them flate untill just after the apex of the first down hill left, breath and maintainace thotel through the middle and flat again right after turn in for the final climbing right, Judge your exit speed by 46/60% track out and getting to far right for good entry to the down hill left into oak tree, Light break and click down one gear for left down the hill if you do not track all the way out down the hill your going to slow WTC),
LOU "Oak tree, break and to third for first half SAIL IT IN, settle car with thottle get rotated and far left for second right (THE KEY) at the tree, break hard and down to 2nd, turn in and aim hit tire wall and ad thottel most 911 will push out so you clip the apex. Drive over the push at track out at watch out for oversteer if you go onto the curb. If you have to breath out of the thottle on exit adjust entry speed or line.
good for 2:00.6 in traffic at this years race. I think on a good day (sun, low humidity 70 degress and some clear laps) I could get into the 57's
Have a great time say hi to the Novak's for me please.
