Did he get run over cuz he lost the rear end? Or did he lose the rear end cuz he got hit from behind?

I heard the crunch after the tail stepped out.. but I'm not sure...

LOL - Nice video, George, thanks...Gives you a good idea of just how fast things can happen out there - even when you're putting along

The video is from the kink at the end of the back straight at VIR

my take on it is he moved in to apex the kink and didn't check for traffic. He'd probably slowed some to make the kink (meotters do brake for the kink, dont they?) but was still going pretty fast. I use 4th gear thru there in my e30 (similar to base model 944 performance).

There's a lot of different valid lines thru that part of the track depending on traffic and what you are trying to accomplish. the one the lower meotter took was basically the school line.

Ooooops...

I looked at it a dozen times to see if I could see a wiggle in the picture that would indicate he got "helped" before he got run over. Just couldn't tell. I also note he was completing a shift right at the time he lost the rear end. Sloppy clutch work?

In any event, the guy that ran over him certainly wasn't giving him much room. I'm wondering where he thought he was going on that line (tight to the left) anyway?

Anyone notice that the car overflying our hapless pilot had his brakes fully locked during his fly-by?

Hehe.

Rumor has it the data acq from the "flying Mercs" at LeMans showed the brakes were pressed flat while the cars were flying.

You sure this guy doesn't lose the rear end on the 5th - 4th downshift and end up a bit left of where the passer expected him?

Good Lord those flaggers were all over that!

Looks like the owner's taken the video offline - the only thing left in that directory is a couple of .jpg images. Anyone find a mirrored copy?
