Default NEW SCCA GT2 Rules up to 3.6l

For anyone not familiar with the fairly recent rules for SCCA GT2 SCCA is now allowing 3.2l 911s at 2160lbs w driver, 3.4 @2220lbs and 3.6l @ 2280lbs. 914s are now also allowed 3.2l and 3.4l motors. I am working on them to allow 18" rims also.

SCCA is a great place to race your car locally. PCA races are a lot of fun but there are probably a lot more SCCA races near you. Miata racing is all about smashing into each other. Most SCCA cars in the GT classes are expensive well prepared cars and there is generally less contact than at a PCA event. They do not have a 13/13 rule though.

SCCA is also now allowing anyone with a PCA licence to race in regional SCCA races.

If anyone wants more info on what it takes to get involved with SCCA please email me. dave@dartauto.com.

After trying it myself and crewing for other Miata drivers I can confirm this.

or....

Q. What makes Wreck Me Otter racing cheap?

How many GT2 cars in a typical SCCA Race are running close to each other? I disagree about Miatas being all about running into each other. I've had the closest, most fun racing in my Miata with 25 closely run cars, most of whom are better drivers than I've seen at any PCA event.

Eh, i guess its all about what you want in racing. I've done a few miata races myself and had an absolute ball. Yes, you don't use the brakes much... only think about touching them two places around Summit. But I had not a single scratch on the car, did 1.31s around summit in a 120hp car with 40 other identical cars. Yes, be prepared to replace a fender or nose, but MAN WAS IT A BLAST!

I can tell you that racing the Maita has made me a quantitatively better driver in the Porsche. I get twice as much seat time because of all the local races and I'm never, ever out there making laps as happens in a lot of PCA races. I'm always racing with at least 2-3 close running cars.

So can I run my GT3 Cup car in SCCA GT2? It's a 3.6L, and it's probably closer to 2800lbs with me driving it. Of course that assumes that I can get it to be quiet enough to race in SCCA...

As for the Miatas, most of the metal-to-metal contact is between PCA'ers who also happen to be friends and team-mates, right Mark?
