But, the Club is clearly not better off without him...

Let's say one discloses sleep apnea on the form, and then provides a one pager, as required. Then PCA says give us CPAP data and the racer complies and everything is all set.
Then a few months later, can the PCA say "we need CPAP data once again," even though the it is not time for a renewed license?
Seems so.
And what "data" would be/is required from an OSA patient with an in implant device?
All of this seems to be out on a long tail.

In my last PCA medical evaluation form I disclosed that I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine. I have been using a CPAP machine for several years now, and through an omission, I did not disclose it on my last medical evaluation. That mistake is not the issue.
Even though I had a year left on my existing medical, when I got a new physical in January I thought I would send in a new medical form to get extended for another two years. When PCA saw that I disclosed the use of a CPAP machine, they asked me for more information, which I initially complied with.

I took a quick look, but didn't see anything to that effect. Perhaps that's something for a future update of the rules.

The most ridiculous thing about this whole ******* travesty is that around 80%-90% of individuals with Clinically Significant OSA are undiagnosed!
In other words: LV by actively being treated for his OSA is far less likely to fall asleep in his race car than many other participants who have OSA but aren’t diagnosed. How in the hell the Medical Committee can’t wrap their head around this fact is beyond me! 🤦♂️

Unbelievably stupid. Yet it is believable, because many of the volunteer 'leaders' in these kinds of organizations are in it because they're on a petty bureaucratic power trip. Luigi, I say keep making noise publicly and bring this issue to a head, don't let them silence and dismiss you.
Are we going to start measuring how well everyone slept the night before, in order to allow them on track the next day for racing and DE? It seems to me that poor sleep before track days is very common. Should we require an annual sleep study for everyone who wants to go on track? Or how about an age past which we just say that people are too old to be on track? Should we require an annual vision exam report be submitted to allow people to go on track? This action by PCA is not only stupid, but also arbitrary and clueless with regard to risk management.

HSR, SVRA, VRG, beckons. Todd. it's really good racing and perfect for your vintage 911.... Try the HSR 24hr Daytona Event in late November: it's amazing to do the high banks at night....
This decision is pathetic; and I am speaking as 35+ year medical personnel.....

The Inspire implantable device has an app where one’s sleep patterns are recorded and can be shared with one’s MD.

As one who is a CPAP user, and also had to submit the discussed compliance documentation, allow me to offer an observation.
Once the ruling was made by medical, there was no turning back. Regardless of the validity of the ruling, or the science, or lack thereof in support of the decision. Everyone in a position to support or reverse said decision has their hands tied. It’s like a CEO making a poor business decision. Publicly, the board supports the CEO, however behind the scenes all sorts of discussion will be taking place.
I would also caution grouping all PCA Club Race volunteers into a group. Especially characterizing them as on a “petty bureaucratic power trip”. That’s just silly. The vast majority of folks supporting PCA have the best of intentions. They freely give up their time to supply a “fairly” good product to us racers. Is there room for improvement, for sure. Are there a number of quality competitors to Club Racing, of course. Club Racing has to find a better way to compete, just like any organization.
I am a 911 Cup racer. The class and club racing as a whole are more interesting and a better product with people like Todd involved. I just don’t think we should throw the baby out with the bathwater.
