I think it's the absurdity that one might simply doze off during a race.
Ludicrous.
Typical bureaucratic thought, that because other 'important' authorities follow it, it must be important.
During a fire inspection for my shop, the captain noted that I had an extinguisher sitting on the bench, not mounted to the wall, as required.
Busted.
He did note, that since my shop was below X square feet, I didn't need that particular one, and if I just removed it I would then be in compliance.
Typical bureaucratic stupidity.
I removed it, and immediately felt much safer.

"4. I was advised that I could get a letter from my doctor saying that I am in compliance. I responded that my doctor is not in my bedroom at night and he has already signed the medical certification disclosing the use of a CPAP device and that I was clear to race. What would another letter accomplish?"
This is CRAZY!!!!
What would such a letter state?
Something like "Yes I am signing off that even with OSA he or she is cleared to race?"
or
"Yes my patient has shown compliance in 2016-- he had an x week period when the data from his machine showed 4 hours at least 70% of nights, and that is clinically relevant even today?"
Crazy!

Will every racer have to wear an Apple I Watch and beam EKG data back to the docs in the paddock in real time? I doubt it.

My own strategy for dealing with stupid requests like this is to just try to jump through the hoop, if I can. They want a letter saying something that is literally impossible, fine I'll get the letter.

What a shame!! PCA has become far too bureaucratic and rigid! The organization should be focusing on accommodating its members needs.
Race organizers are wondering why attendance is so poor. This is a perfect example of why membership is declining.
There needs to be a mechanism in place to be able to reach and check these “volunteers“ that run our club for us…
Can we get a second opinion please?

Well Luigi…. Its a good thing you’re a lawyer because you’ll never get a commercial drivers license now… 😃
By the logic of the medical committee, wouldn’t your “condition” of possibly falling asleep on the track preclude you from other PCA activities such as time trials and/or HPDE too?
As was mentioned by Paradocs, PCA president will never overrule the medical committee for liability reasons.
Take a deep breath, recognize how your fellow racers are backing you and your contribution to the club racing fraternity, but there will have to be compromise on both sides (likely more from you) as the medical committee will have to CYA their initial decision with supporting documentation to clear you now.

You didn't use your avatar picture on your application did you???
Reminds me of an accident I had at Topeka many years ago in my spec Miata. I got T boned by a guy who totally missed a chicane and used me to slow down- never came over to apologize or anything. This was in the fall and he didn't show up next spring- I asked around where he was and several said, "oh he has Alzheimer's and isn't racing anymore..."
If it matters, would SCCA require the same stuff as PCA??

The world seems increasingly filled with petty little tyrants. As we learned every single day during the COVID hysteria...

I fully understand your line in the sand and say Bravo. 😉 I would do the same thing and have with DE/TT orgs over their practices, of course not medical. Many places to play where you will be welcome with open arms.
