On the race track, it only means one thing….
It's the same as the Supreme Court's definition of pornography.

I care. Terminology matters. I didn't put 'red mist' on my list because human factors experts don't use that concept/term to analyze and explain why incidents occur.

Now, a question: for what percentage of DE and racing incidents is a mental state of anger a major contributing factor?

Significant, especially in competition.

The conversion of fear into anger is common. Where a startled driver interprets another's mistake as an aggressive act requiring reprisal.

The red mist is a thing. The blood rush to the head, the narrowing of vision and focus towards "the threat." it's almost an autonomic response.

I'm heading to the Glen but I'm bringing my CPAP so I shouldn't get red mist.

Then you should care that it means one thing in a Psych 101 textbook and it means something completely different on the racetrack. That’s where it matters to me. Couldn’t care less what it means in a freshman Harvard classroom.

CPAP is protection against falling asleep while driving a race car, red mist, and most STDs.

IMO, what we call red mist is part of the biophysical fight or flight response

[QUOTE=Veloce Raptor;19583054]IMO, what we call red mist is part of the biophysical fight or flight response[/QUOTE.].

Yes, when the reptillian brain takes over and quits even referencing the analytical part. The best example I ever saw was when a driver at the glen blew double yellows all the way from 11 to the bus stop where he took out a Boxster in spectacular fashon after passing multiple cars. His brain thought he was a hero threre for a min or so.

Was PCA or PCA CR that specific? Or did the conversation veer off in a different direction?

Red mist: when a high level of anger clouds judgment and decision-making in a context such as driving on a race track.

I sometimes get pissed off, but can't say that I've ever really experienced (the) red mist in any setting.
