LOL Peter, are you applying for Italian citizenship through the elective visa program (often called the Golden Visa in other EU countries such as Malta, Spain or Portugal)? One of the requirements is to invest a mid 6 figure income in an Italian based company and your comments lately have been heavily backing the Scuderia, church bells in Maranello and the like... What are your thoughts on having a cappuccino after 11 a.m.? LOL

Yup, best result is a 4th place finish in 13 seasons. 40 retirements out of 208 starts (19.2%).
11 first lap retirements.
And make no mistake, the narrative that he does not crash cars isn't totally true.
He's crashed plenty of cars . . .

Hulkenberg has been a little better than most in the mid-field at avoiding them and he scores points in a dog of a car. He replaced Mick Schumacher, I think Haas are very happy with that move.

I'm a long time devotee. My first track event was two days driving a 250 GT/Lusso at Roebling Road in 1984. Never been the same since.
Here's a 500 Mondial I drove through the factory gates in 1988.

It makes sense for Newey to go to Ferrari because it makes sense as a business plan.
Ferrari acquires Hamilton.
Ferrari acquires Newey.
Newey builds a car which lets Hamilton obtain his 8th WDC, beating Schumacher.
Hamilton and Newey retire from F1 and are paid tons by the Ferrari marketing machine.
Ferrari sells more cars and merch.
Good ROI for Ferrari.

While I agree that crashing a car in today's salary cap era does pose a problem, is someone who just scores points when available, but no chance at podiums, a team's desires?
I joke, but Nico has gone through newly every team and former team on the grid:
2010 - Williams
2011-2012 - Force India
2013 - Sauber
2014-2016 - Return to Force India
2017-2019 - Renault Factory Team
2020 - Racing Point (formerly known as Force India)
2021 - Aston Martin (Formerly known as Racing Point, formerly known as Force India)
2023-2024 - HAAS
2025 - Return to Sauber/Audi
208 F1 races with no podiums and 3 years in a factory team. He did almost get his first podium in the factory Renault car, but ironically crashed it.

The fly in your ointment is that Leclerc is faster than Hamilton, younger than Hamilton, hungrier than Hamilton, and still getting better. Hamilton's age will have his talents diminishing at an accelerated rate. The 2026 season is just too far down the road for Hamilton to win the WDC again...he will be 41 years old. Leclerc will be 28....

Nope, I was just there to keep the car running. Paul ran into a squall heading up the hill to San Marino. Aquaplaned into a stone wall.
I was following in a Lancia Thema 8.32 and took the car's lead knock-off hammer to the inside of the fender to get the him going again.
This was the day after at Parma, headed to Maranello. I couldn't stop crying as I drove through the gates at the factory.
The Italians cheered the car at the factory. It was amazing. We did it a few times (the Mille Miglia Storica) thirty-five years ago. Car sold for $3.2M a few years ago...

Not to mention Ferrari, even with Newey, has to nail the new the regs and build the quickest car and best engine. They have not done that since Schumacher.
I am an optimist but there are a lot of variables that all have to fall in line.

If been saying this for years. Unlike the old days when drivers like Schumacher insisted on driving every single test session which resulted in direct feedback to improve the car, since the abolition of in season testing and very limited pre-season testing, the drivers have very little they can contribute whereas the CAD team and engineers are more valuable to the success of the car.
