Noobie raising a hand here:

I am considering going to this event for the very first time. Is it okay to stay outside of Daytona, say, in Orlando? Or is it best to fly into and stay in Daytona?

Not really sure on that, we are on the other coast in the Tampa Bay area. To avoid the way over priced crappy track food we go over to One Daytona and grab some BBQ from 4Rivers. There are some better restaurants at One Daytona so maybe Google that. There are also some decent options on the beach at Daytona Beach but not sure how fancy they are to thank your very supportive wife. Maybe someone else will chime in.

OK to fly into Orlando but it is a bit of a drive to the track. Lake Mary is on the north side of Orlando metro area and approximately 30 minutes to the track on I-4. Good luck getting hotels close to the track but the track is right off I-95 so there are some options not to far north and south.

There is a plethora of hotels real close, but they require a minimum number of nights and are not bashful on pricing during the race weekend. All the big chains are well represented.

We used to stay at the Wyndham hotel on the beach - stayed for a full week, worked from there, walked the beach in the AM/PM, made a mini vacation out of it. Then just ran up to the track on and off Thursday/Friday, grabbed breakfast with some friends each morning, then at the track all Sat/Sun (or until we got tired Sat night). Worked out well - take the family, stay on the beach and let whoever doesn't want to come to the track enjoy some R&R.

We typically end up at BJ's Brewhouse and Rock Bottom Brewery at least once each while in Daytona (notice a theme?). Found a few local dives around the area if they're open (Our Deck Down Under we sometimes meet up with friends at). Now we'll have our RV so we may eat out less.
If we DO have it at the track, I'll let everyone know and maybe we can have anyone over for drinks.

We moved to Central FL in Feb so will be attending our first Rolex 24 this year. We have the GA tix with the garage pass (which I also think are valid for the Roar before the 24) so may go over the weekend before to get a lay of the land.

Our plan is to drive over and watch the start and race into the evening, drive home and sleep for a few hours and then drive back for the finish. I don't have any parking passes (yet) so any recommendations? Would also like to meet some of you if possible.

Thanks
