Rolex 24 Hours Daytona

Been watching nbc and usa. Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like the coverage. Also, can we get some more coverage on the GTD cars?! Maybe it's just me, but seems way skewed to the GTP. Tired of hearing how it's the (in my best announcer's voice) NEXT GENERATION OF RACING.

Thanks for the VPN tip. I’m using UK connection and watching on IMSATV. No commercials!
The NBC U.S.A. Peacock coverage was horrendous. More ads than racing and they couldn’t seem to find any interesting battles.

Besides the Rangers winning the Cup in 94 and the Yankees 7 World Championships during my lifetime and the Giants 4 Super Bowls, I think Racing at night May be the best spectator event I’ve ever been at. One of the coolest things we’ve ever done.
Heading back to the track around 4am for a tour of the hot pits during the race (compliments of PCNA) and to watch the rest of the race. So much fun, and so glad we came. Now I know why all you guys are here. Def again next season.

Well, it beats TV coverage of an indycar race several years ago when they split from the telelcast with one lap left to go to a bowling tournament... almost throw a brick through the TV... this was way before streaming etc...

So I’m in Orlando and went to the race for a few hours today…watching it now on tv.
Can anybody answer the question I can’t find an answer to anywhere? Why do the GTP cars have huge billboards on the back of them? Is this some sort of aerodynamic trick or just an ugly way to add advertising to the car?
BTW, they had a section in the “fanzone” of historic cars and had a Dyson 962 and the famous Swap Shop 935. Better times. It’s sad that the Porsche 963 isn’t really a Porsche.

I'm there, pretty fantastic race so far-24 hour sprint basically. Last night we talked with Wayne, Ricky and Jordan Taylor; Felipe Albuquerque, Louis Deletraz Brendan Hartley and Michael Andretti for a while out for dinner. Today it was Greg Penske and Bobby Rahal in the pits. An artist named Bill Patterson who has painted something for me in the past, once again comes through with an awesome painting done in the Rolex Club this evening. This year Porsche is racing a brand new car at Daytona, the “963.” Fifty years ago today, a Porsche 911 RSR win the race. The two cars are depicted here. To commemorate the milestone Bill painted this, the proceeds going to charity. I bought print number 22/23. Can’t wait to get it!
I got this painting from my brother by Bill a couple years ago for Xmas. When Bill was at the Glen last year I told him I had it and that it was a great painting of me. He said, "No, that's supposed to be me!" lol. I knew it, I was just busting his chops.

Here are a few images from the PCA tent area. I worked a shift on Friday and returned. The #7 is back behind the wall and in the pits again with issues on Sunday morning at 8 am. At least the weather is cooperating!

Was there yesterday for the start and first 7 hours or so. On my way back today for the finish (we live about 90 minutes away).
We watched the start from the main grandstand, straight across from the middle of the entry and exit to the horseshoe - great place as you can see the entire track as well as a nice view straight down pit lane. BTW - the #60 Acura is very fast. The 963's are not quite at the top of class (I also witnessed both of them overcooking the horseshoe turn in...), and obviously need to work on reliability.
Too bad about the new 911 GTR's - definitely not on the same pace as the Mercedes and Corvette. I am sure they will get there as the season wears on.
We visited the PCA tent and walked around the corral. Great catching up with a few folks and some amazing cars (that Singer was jaw dropping).
See ya'll soon!
