Add another racing organization that has descended to a tragic shadow of its former self.
Not that as if F1 is a paragon, years ago they were killing their drivers due to awful car and track designs until the drivers said enough.
Now F1 is going down to NASCAR levels for the sake of entertainment. Hardly ever watch NASCAR since they made into a playoff and now I'll quit F1 for their similar stupid decisions.
We'll see if IMSA and Indy can avoid becoming circuses.
This really feels like more of a marketing decision than a racing decision aimed at keeping new watchers coming back over creating an opportunity for the two best drivers and teams to fight it out fairly at the end of the race. The drivers and the cars are better than the situation that the officials put them in. In the end, for me, neither of them deserved to win or lose this way...
The ending was farcical, manufactured. The cherry-picking of the rulebook to manipulate the placement of cars for a last lap showdown between P1 and P2, while ignoring all other drivers in the race was mind-boggling. I've been watching the sport for 30 years and I don't ever recall the safety car being handled the way Masi did, moving only a hand-picked set of cars and pulling the SC out immediately. Specially given the fact in a prior event, Eiffel GP 2020, Masi extended the SC in order to strictly enforce the rules as they are written: "There's a requirement in the sporting regulations to wave all the lapped cars past"
I don't care whether Lewis or Max had been in P1 when the SC was deployed... The race should've ended as per the rules dictate, un-lapping all cars appropriately, or un-lapping none. Sure the former would've led to a SC finish, but it is what it is, there were 50-odd racing laps prior. And for those saying the RD can overrule, then why bother with the rulebook then if a single individual can call the shots as he/she see fit?
Like usual, everyone is looking at a snapshot in time, when there are decades of backstory leading up to all of this, not the least of which includes the support of family.

Racing always has been, and probably always will be, about the rules and how to get an advantage. Whether it is club racing or F1 people will argue over rules.
I also think people are losing sight of the fact that F1 is an entertainment industry. They aren't out there curing cancer and the claims of the technology transferring to real world solutions probably amount to a rounding error.
Accordingly, I'd say the biggest sin is that F1 didn't give the people what they wanted to see - a fair race unencumbered by the stewards. That being said, I think finishing behind the safety car was a greater sin than what took place.

Personally, I would not put Jos Verstappen on par with Anthony Hamilton.

I agree. I loved every minute of the season, including the final race. Cant wait to watch Drive to Survive when it airs.
Verstappen is the best driver on the grid in my opinion. He was screwed by some bad luck and poor rules determinations all season. He finally benefitted from some good luck.
F1 popularity has grown by leaps and bounds this year. Thats good for everyone, including club racers and DE drivers. Grow the sport and and trickles down to all of us.
