Kind of surprised an old (respectfully) F1 fan like you would be brought back with Drive to Survive as most say it's just there to get the casual and young fan to watch.
Rain is bad luck, not following the rules is a different situation.
Strategy decisions are based upon the rules being followed.
With 5 laps to go, if they did not put the lapped cars around Max would have 5 cars to get past if and when it was green and if they pointed the lapped cars around then it would likely end under yellow anyway.

Agree with Greg

So the way it was explained to me:

if you’re on track with a Clubsport, and you hit that Clubsport, it’s your fault.

if you’re on track with a Clubsport, and that Clubsport hits you, still your fault.

if you’re on track with a Clubsport, and a meteor comes flying out of the sky and demolishes your race car, we’ll that’s just really bad luck.

Nothing about rules not being followed when it comes to bad luck.

My $.02

Speaking of bad luck, I wonder how Felipe feels about this ending. Considering crashgate basically stole his WDC and resulted in Lewis winning that year…

Latifi’s crash was the bad luck for Lewis and good luck for Max. The decision to not unlap the cars earlier was Masi’s for consideration of track marshalls cleaning up the debris. The compromise was to let those cars in between the 2 protagonists go through and not the rest so that the championship would not be decided by a SC.

Lewis could have done a much better job of holding off Max without DRS for 1 lap by covering the inside despite the difference in tire life. I saw Perez do it earlier in the race against Lewis when Lewis also had the luxury of DRS.

When I said that Lewis led virtually every lap, I was being a bit lazy, and Winders nailed me. I've now checked.

Lewis led the entire race, except for laps 14-21. (He was 2nd to Max in those laps.)

As I said in my earlier post, F1 has a giant rulebook. does anyone know what the rule is about letting lapped cars pass the SC?

As to what Lewis leading 'virtually' the entire race (AND THE 30 LAPS leading to the last lap) has to do with anything -- it means that Lewis was the overwhelming favorite to win - he had kept Max at bay for those 37 laps. Masi stacked the deck (it seems to me) so that Max would win.

but again: does anyone know what the rule is about letting lapped cars pass the SC?

Leading a bunch of laps means nothing.....leading the last lap means everything.

Now I'm back into it and love it again.

WTF is wrong with me? I think it's exciting again, I guess.
Did it get exciting again or am I just having dead show type flashbacks to a younger day?
The last two F1 seasons have been better than the 10 before it from a TV viewing perspective. More exciting.

Madison Square Garden cotton candy at Ranger Games rules. Anything else, I’ll take the sprouts. Little honey, some butchers bacon, a butter pat and some EVOO, gimme them sprouts 8 ways to Sunday.
Cotton candy…pffft.

Sort of like how Michael Schumacher didn’t bitch when Fisicella cut his tire in Brazil to keep him from winning and taking his 8th championship instead of Fernando getting his second title?

I am still in awe of how hard Michael drove those remaining laps that year…

It's understandable that the F1 team would be upset, but not sending their F1 title winning car to the FIA prize ceremony that recognizes the best manufacturers has nothing to do with Masi.

Not having Hamilton there (Article 6.6: The drivers finishing first, second and third in the Championship must be present at the annual FIA Prize Giving ceremony.) with Toto not attending while Bottas does, shows leadership deficiencies at a global company like Mercedes. No bueno.

Pure lack of character and a sad example of how to behave in defeat for young fans.
